What's Up My People,

Today is Day 9 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the ninth day of FMC's 21 Days of Fasting. Today was a very busy yet productive day. I am still holding on and growing strong by the grace of God. I am so proud of the faithful people of FMC and their determination to get everything that God has for them. I truly believe by faith that God will reward his people due to their faithfulness and sacrifice. Our job is to not get weary in well doing because in due season we shall reap if we faint not. This is what I have been mediating on today, being faithful to the assignment and the season God has me in. The enemy always wants us to get weary and give up. However, when we hold on and keep the faith, good things will always happen. So, that's my encouragement to everyone today, keep being faithful. Don't think about giving up. God is able and HE has great plans for all of us. I wanted end today by sharing a video testimony of the power of the 21 Day Fast to help us all stay strong. Day 9 is gone - 9 down and 12 more to go. Is Black History Month Still Relevant?

What's Up My People,

Today is day 8 of 21 days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the eighth Day of FMC's 21 Day Fast. I am still feeling strong and doing good. I am yet holding on! Mondays are always pretty good days for me. They are days that I try to get rest. The key word is "try" because there is always something to do, something to get done. However, I always enjoy the time I have to spend with the people I love, my family. Today, I wanted to blog about something that I think is very culturally important for our society today. Tonight, I want to talk about whether or not Black History Month is still relevant in our society today.

There are two perspectives as it relates to this issue of the relevance of Black History Month. One perspective suggests that because of the accomplishments and achievements of African Americans there is no need to continue to highlight the accomplishments of black people. Also within this perspective, there is a sense that because black have progressed so much in America, and with the election of a black President, there is no need to single out black people as minorities. Then there is the other perspective that says that as long as black people live in America, there needs to be a mention of black peoples' accomplishments. Within this perspective, proponents of Black History feel that although minorities have come a long way we have not yet arrived.

I personally believe that Black History month is still "culturally" relevant. It is always important to know where you have come from, so that you can know where you are going. Black History reminds us that as black people our journey has not always been easy, but by the grace of God, we have made it thus far. This is important, especially in times like these when people feel hopeless and helpless. People need to know that if God brought us 300 years ago, HE is still able to do it in the 21st century. When we know were we come from, then we can be confident that we are going in the right direction. Our past should be used to encourage us and to motivate us to press toward our future. As a people we have to remind the current generation of the struggles and successes of the previous generation. One of the saddest scriptures in the Bible is when the Bible says "there arose a generation who knew not the Lord." Now, the question arises "How is it that a generation could arise who knew not the great things that God had done for the people of Israel?" The answer is that the current generation did not know what God had done because the previous generation stop talking about him. They stopped sharing the great stories and the great things that God had done. When we stop talking about our history, we will end up losing our history. So don't stop telling people about what God has done for you and please remember your cultural history. Because your cultural history will always be relevant: yesterday, today and forever more.

In conclusion, I want to encourage everyone to continue to share the great things that God has done for you. Let people know your history and how God made a way for you. Well it's time for me to call it a night. Still excited about this season of sacrifice and how God is building us up. Can you believe day 8 is gone - 8 down 13 more days to go. We gone make it!

A Great Sunday

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 7 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the seventh day of FMC's 21 Day Fast. Well today was a great day. Sundays are always great days for me because I get to worship with God with some of the greatest people in the world at FMC. God is truly blessing FMC with favor and momentum, and today's experience was another testament to God's goodness. This Sunday was a special Sunday at FMC because this Sunday we kicked off our Pathway To Purpose classes. P2P is a ten class new member program tha helps members of FMC get to know their church, 1st family, our doctrine, and the basic tenants of our Christian faith. On this Sunday, we had our first class ever, and it was filled with joy and excitement. Literally, fifteen minutes before registration started people were lined up, ready to receive their booklets and get going. We had over 350 adults and young people show up to participate in our first P2P class and I am grateful for that. Special shout out to Lady Herring, my darling wife, who did a great job teaching FMC 101 today. I'm very proud of her. I can't wait to continue on with the classes and begin to build strong ministries at FMC.

Also, today we begin an exciting preaching series entitled, "God Talk: Learning To Hear From God." We learned today the importance of discerning God's voice and not just being religious without having relationship. We discussed how Samuel was a young man who lived in the temple and served God faithfully, but was not able to recognize God's voice when he spoke to him. The sad reality is that there are a lot of Christians who go to church and work for God, but are not able to recognize the voice of God speaking in their lives. It is our goal at FMC to be people who know God and are able to discern his voice and obey HIM. Samuel teaches us that when we hear God and obey HIM, he will take us from ordinary to extra-ordinary. This is what I want for my life and the lives of the people of God.

Then finally, today was Super Bowl Sunday. I wanted the Giants to win and they did. This game was a challenge because traditionally on Super Bowl Sunday it is a time to feast and fellowship. However, since we are in a fast at FMC, I dug deeper and sacrificed for the kingdom!!! I am extremely happy for what God is doing in my life through this fast. Not only is God helping me, but so many members came to me today saying how the fast has impacted them and taken them to a whole new level. God is good! Family, when you sacrifice for God, HE will move heaven and earth in order to bless you and take you the next level in your life. So be strong and trust God. Your season is coming. God Talk

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 6 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the sixth day of FMC's 21 Days of Fasting. I am extremely excited about what God is doing in the lives of his people during this time of sacrifice. The testimonies are already coming in about how God is moving by his power. I truly believe with all my heart that the best is yet to come!!!

I am so excited about tomorrow at FMC. We are beginning a new preaching series entitled, "God Talk: Learning To Hear From God." I believe this series will be life changing, as we teach people how to hear from God and receive guidance and direction for their lives. Hearing from God is one of the most important things you can learn to do. As we begin to study this matter in the next coming of weeks, I am believing that many people will begin to have a long overdue conversation with God. Can you imagine the things that God will share with his people: the guidance, direction, correction, encouragement, and etc. This is going to be great.

I can hardly wait to get to FMC and get this spiritual party started. I am also excited to get in the house and continue to encourage my peeps to keep on pressing during these 21 Days of fasting. Tomorrow will be an awesome time. Oh yeah, we are also beginning our Pathway 2 Purpose classes on tomorrow. I can't wait to begin this journey also. The God Who Moves Mountains

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 5 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the fifth day of FMC's 21Days of Fasting. As the old church mother would ask, "Are you yet holding on?" Once you answered said "yes", then she would say, "Then you just keep on keeping on then baby." That's what I want to say to all my faithful people tonight, just keep on keeping on. This evening, I wanted to encourage the people of God through song. This song I want to share with you tonight is a classic, but it is still such an awesome encouragement. So tonight, be encourage and know that God is able to move every mountain in your life. Don't think about giving up. Stay Strong. Day 5 is almost gone - 5 down 16 more to go. Put It In God's Hand

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 4 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and the fourth day of FMC's 21 Day Fast. I feel extremely encourage today, I know with a certainty that the mission is possible. All day long, I have been mediating on Psalm 131. I have found great strength in God's Word today. In this season of spiritual sacrifice it is so important that I feed my Spirit with food HE likes to eat - "The Word of God." And, man did I feed my Spirit well today.

In Psalm 131, David starts off this psalm by making an awesome decree. He talks about how he will not allow himself to get too prideful or arrogant. What a decree for us all to make. Then he declares that he will not concern himself or walk in "great matters" or in the MBH version "drama." Then David goes on to say that he will not allow himself to also get entangle in things that are too profound or too difficult for him. I love this! Because what David teaches us in this passage is that as believers, we have to learn how to not worry about things we cannot change. There are somethings in life we have to put in God's hands and trust him with it. This is what the Lord shared with me today. It is never good for us to try to fix things that only God can fix.

Therefore, I made up in my mind that like David, I will not concern myself with great matter and things that are too profound for me. When problems arise that seem bigger than me or when things happen that I cannot do anything about, I will not try to work them out. But, I will let the Lord fight my battles (touch somebody and say, let the Lord fight your battles...lol) I'm sorry, I felt like preaching!!!! Alright, alright.... On the real, we have to learn as followers of Christ how to rest in the LORD. We have to grow to the point in our lives that we trust God with everything in our lives and know that HE will take care of us.

David ended this passage my giving an awesome example of how we should trust in God. David said our trust in God should be like a baby who trust in its mother. If you have ever seen a baby who is a newborn, when the newborn gets bothered or upset it will cry and cry. However, as soon as the baby gets in the "presence" of its mother the baby is at total peace. That's how we should be with God, although sometimes we may get unsettle and nervous, if we can just get in the presence of our Heavenly Father, we will be at total peace. If I was preaching, I would say that oftentimes, the louder we cry the more likely our Heavenly Father will hear us. Sometimes we have to praise our way through, in order to make sure God hears our cry.

In conclusion, I want to leave you with some words of encouragement. Don't worry about things you cannot control, fix, or change. Know that you are God's child and God will take care of you. On Day 4, we are learning how to trust God and cast all of our cares upon HIM. So my final words to you tonight, "Put It In God's Hand." Now, let's keep on pushing, Day 4 is almost gone - 4 down and 17 more to go. We holla.

How Bad Do You Want It

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 3 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Also, it is the third day of our 21 Day Fast at FMC. The goal of my blog today is to simply ask a question. The question I want to ask is: "How Bad Do You Want It." This is an important question, because the level of your want will determine the level your of manifestation. Oftentimes in life our ability to receive the promises of God is predicated upon how bad we want the blessings God has to offer. This evening at Believer's Night, I talked about Abraham, and how he wanted to walk in his destiny so bad that he was willing to give up something he loved.

In Genesis 22, Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac, in order to prove to God that he loved HIM more. Once, God saw how serious Abraham was about HIM and obeying HIM. That's when God told Abraham that he would give him everything HE had promised to him. So it is in life, when God sees us digging deeper and willing to sacrifice stuff we love, then HE will give us his blessings and promises. However, like HE did Abraham, God first needs to know "How Bad Do We Want It." This is why it is so important that we do not be weary in well doing. When the enemy tries to get us to stop being faithful to God, we have to rebuke him and keep on pushing. Because we want God to know that this year we are serious about growing in HIM. We are serious about digging deeper and spending time with God. And, once God knows we are serious about HIM and we want what he has for us real bad, then his blessings will rest upon our lives.

So in conclusion, I ask you again, "How Bad Do You Want The Blessings of God." Do you want it bad enough to give up something you love like Abraham was in his willingness to give up Isaac. Do you want it bad enough to pray more and spend more time with God. Do you want it bad enough to love your family and forgive your enemies. Well, I can promise you this, when God know you are digging deeper and you want it bad enough to give up something you love; that is when God will release a flow of his favor and power in your life. If you ask me, "How Bad Do I Want It." I will tell you that I want it bad enough to give God anything HE ask for. Yes, I am so motivated for God in this season of my life. Living A Life of Discipline

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 2 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses and Day 2 of FMC 21 Days of Fasting. I can honestly say that I feel great and my body feels great also. However, more than anything my Spirit is getting stronger. Today, the Holy Spirit has been sharing with me some things that I need to hear in order for me to be a better Christian. Oftentimes, as a pastor I am always receiving a Word for other people, but today I got a Word concerning me. I am so glad I heard it because I know it's going to make me better. I also realize that me hearing from God today is a direct result of my fasting and sacrifice unto God.

So, let me share with you what the Lord shared with me concerning me. The focus of my time today with God was on living a life of discipline toward God. Now notice I said discipline toward God, because all of us, at some level, have discipline. Most people in their right mind brush their teeth everyday. Most people take a bath everyday. Most people follow the traffic signs when they drive (for the most part...lol). My point is that at some level we know how to do what we are suppose to do; the key is getting to the point that we are disciplined as it relates to our relationship with God. It has been said that discipline is doing what you don't want to when you don't want to do it. Some people are disciplined to diet, some are disciplined to workout, and others are discipline to be a faithful husband or wife. Now, all of these things are great to be disciplined toward, however our ultimate area of discipline should be towards God and obeying HIM.

As believers, it should be our goal to live a life of discipline for God. If we want to be prosperous in 2012, it will take discipline. There are some blessings and promises that God offers that cannot be possessed unless you have discipline. The Bible says, "If you are willing and obedient -then-, you can eat of the good of the land." Another scriptures says "Delight yourself in the Lord -then- HE will give you the desires of your heart." The implication is if you want what God has to offer, you must do your part (be disciplined) and then God will do his part and bless you. My point is that, somethings you want to walk in during 2012, you will only be able to walk in it if you are disciplined. So now is the time for you to begin to train your body, spirit, and soul to submit to God and live a life of discipline. So my encouragement to all of us who are fasting is to be disciplined. Your discipline today will orchestrate your deliverance tomorrow.

In conclusion, this year is a year to be disciplined. Do what's right. Spend time with God (read your Word, pray, go to church, evangelize, testify, etc), be a good spouse, be a good parent, be a good employee, be a good friend, be on time, be consistent and the list goes on.......Whatever you do this year, do your part and believe God to do HIS. As I am finishing up Day 2, my spiritual discipline is getting stronger. Hey, Day 2 is almost gone - 19 more days to go. Peace.

Fasting - What is it really about?

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 1 of 21 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. I wanted to blog for 21 days in order to encourage FMC and the people of God during this time of sacrifice. In these 21 days of blogging, I want to share with everyone what God is sharing with me. It is my prayer that we grow together and we all get to the next level in our lives. So, today I want to share a little about the true meaning of fasting.

As we have started this 21 day journey, we all must keep in mind that fasting is not so much about the food we give up, but it is more about the power we will receive due to the food we give up. Anytime God asks us to make a sacrifice, HE knows that there is a blessing ahead. When God leads us to give something up, it is because He wants us to replace what we gave up with HIM. This is why I feel that one of the most important things we can do when we fast is to "pray." Oftentimes, in scripture fasting and prayer goes together. It's almost like, you cannot do one without the other. It is important to remember that in these 21 days of fasting, we are just not giving up food but we are also praying to God 3 times a day. As we pray, we are just not talking to God but we are listening to hear what God has to say to us. By the way, Sunday, we start a new preaching series entitled, "God Talk: Learning To Hear From God." This series will help you tremendously in the fast and will be one of the most important series I have ever preached at FMC. Don't miss it! OK back to my point. So, my encouragement to all who are fasting is just don't give up food, but replace the food you give up with spending time with God. I like to say, if we just fast without seeking God, then we are really not fasting, we are just dieting. Fasting is about giving up something you love, so you can draw closer to God. It's about letting God know: I will endure a physical hunger in order to receive a spiritual hunger for YOU.

I think what I learned in Day 1 was that fasting is not about just giving up food but it's about spending time with the Father. The more time I spend praising & worshipping HIM, the more time I spend thanking Him, the more time I spend praying to Him; the less time I spend concentrating on what I am giving up for HIM. I am believing God for great things because of this fast. However, more than anything, I want to draw closer to God. Now, I know the enemy will not like it. He will try to put every food commercial on television to get us off our game. The enemy will try to play with our nose and make it more sensitive to every kind of food possible. The enemy would love, more than anything else, to discourage us and make us give up. However, the Bible is right, "greater is He that is in us then he that is in the world."

So in conclusion, as we fast let's not concentrate so much on what we are giving up. Let's focus more on what God is going to give us due to our sacrifice. And, even if you fall or have a mishap, don't quit. Get back on track and dig deeper. These 21 days are about drawing closer to God. We are letting God know we are serious and we want to dig deeper this year. This year is our year to walk in the right discipline, direction, and devotion towards God. I can't wait to receive uncommon financial breakthrough, live in a strife free home, and walk in wholeness in my body. When I think about what I can have, it is much more greater than what I have to give up. I'm feeling good, strong, and healthy. This is our time, let's do it big for Jesus. Fasting For The Supernatural (Part II)

Prayer and Fasting

Fasting Defined: DEFINED:
• Fasting is intentional abstinence from eating.
• Hebrew word for fast is (tsum) - It means ―to cover over the mouth‖
• Greek word for fast is (nesteuo) - It means ―to abstain from food‖
• Fasting is a conscious, intentional decision to abstain from the pleasure of eating for a time, in order to gain vital spiritual benefits

Purpose of Fasting
• Seeking God – Matthew 6:33
• Putting God First – Jeremiah 29:13
• Interceding for others – Luke 4:1-2, John 17:6-26

Results of Fasting
1. Hearing from God
2. Receiving Spiritual Power from God
3. Breakthroughs in Difficult Situations
4. Salvation and Deliverance
5. Peace
6. Physical Cleansing

Ways To Fast
1. The absolute fast allows no food or water at all, and should be short.
2. The normal fast is going without food for a definite period during which you ingest only liquids (water and/or juice).
3. The partial fast is one that omits certain foods or is on a schedule that includes limited eating.
4. A rotational fast consists of eating or omitting certain families of food for some time.

THE DANIEL FAST
Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water only. Eat fruits and vegetables

FOOD GUIDELINES FOR A DANIEL FAST

Daniel 1:12 "Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink."

Daniel 10:3 KJV I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled." (21 DAYS)

Fasting Scriptures: Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-15, Luke 18:9-14, Jonah 3:5-10, & Isaiah 58

When going on a Daniel fast, or any type of fast, if you have questions outside of what Scripture says, prayerfully seek the Lord and be led by the Spirit for the specifics for your personal fast.

Fasting For The Supernatural (Part I)

What's Up My People,

Today FMC was unbelievable!!!! God moved in a mighty way and spoke some things to us as a church corporately that is going to take all of us to the next level. On today, we begin a 2 Part Series entitled, "Digging Deeper." This message was an encouragement to us all that if we want to walk in the power, prosperity, provisions, and possibilities that God has for us in 2012; then we have to "Dig Deeper" as it relates to our relationship with God. In Hebrews 12:1-2, we learn 3 things we must do in order to dig deeper:

1. Have The Proper Discipline (vs.1)
2. Have The Proper Direction(vs.1)
3. Have The Proper Devotion (vs. 2)

I worked really heard to make these points clear. I used to props, a bow flex workout bench, and a treadmill. Although, I worked hard exercising and preaching the Word at the same time, it was well worth it because God moved in a awesome way!!! Then after I ministered the Word, I had to give to FMC what God had given to me. Because we are in a season of "Digging Deeper," God inspired me to call the church into a corporate fast. God lead me to direct the church into a Daniel fast. The Daniel fast is a fast that was first orchestrated by the prophet Daniel in the book of Daniel 1 & 10. In Daniel 1, the prophet fasted by only eating fruits, vegetables and only drinking water. He did this for 10 days and God honored him and favored him for it. Then in Daniel 10, the prophet fasted again by not eating bread and meat; he only ate once again vegetables, fruits, and only drank water. Therefore, I asked God if he wanted FMC to fast for 10 days or 21 days. Then I thought, "Do we have 10-day problems or 21-day problems? Then it became clear. God wanted us to fast for 21 days the way Daniel did by only eating fruits and vegetables and only drinking water. This we will do for 21 days as Daniel did. The best part of this is that God told me that as we engaged in this fast a church body that their were 3 things we could expect God to do for us:

1. Give Uncommon Financial Breakthroughs
2. Give Us A Strife Free Home (Peaceful Homes)
3. Give Us Wholeness In Our Bodies

Wow, this is so exciting! As we did a altar call to pray for all the members participating in this 21 day fast, the altar was packed with people who were willing to experience physical hunger so that they could fulfill their spiritual hunger. Everyone was so excited and anticipating God to do great things. Although, some members were trying to bargain with me about trying to eat during Super Bowl Sunday (I won't call no names..lol), however everyone understood it's time to ~Dig Deeper~. when we sacrifice for God, the Lord will reward us for our obedience and faithfulness. This is going to be awesome, I can't wait for the people of God to experience uncommon financial breakthroughs, a strife free home, and wholeness in their bodies. It's on like popcorn.

Lastly, I wanted to share some information about fasting and the Daniel fast. I have placed this information in Part II of this blog. I know it will bless you. So let's review. Every Faith Mover is on a 21 day Daniel fast: only eating fruits and vegetables and only drinking water. We are also praying 3 times a day and believing God for 3 supernatural things: Uncommon financial breakthrough, strife free home, and wholeness in our bodies. So,let's do it big for God this year. God has so many blessings and promises for us and we can only receive them if we are willing to Dig Deeper. This blog is a little overdue, but as the old saying goes, "Better late than never." If you been keeping up with Faith Movers, then you know that we have been in a preaching series all month long entitled, "From Wall Street To God Street." This series has been so liberating for the people of God because we are learning how to organize and manage our finances God's way. The last two Believer's Night I have been ministering a message entitled, 10 Ways To Maximize Your Money. Does God Care About Football?

What's Up My People,

Today let me grab the bull right by the horns and answer the question to my blog title: Does God care about football? Yes!!!!!!! I believe God cares about anything that has the ability to give him glory, and make no mistake about it, football has the enormous potential to give God glory. As you know, all week long the sports world has been going crazy over my boy, Tim Tebow. If you watch ESPN for just 10 minutes, you cannot help hearing about the life and career of Tim Tebow. Tebow is the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos. He is also an unapologetic born again Christian. Now, to Tebow's credit all throughout his high school, college and NFL career he has always professed his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Now as an NFL player and on a bigger stage more people have been beginning to recognize him.

Another reason many people have recognized Tebow is because although he had a stellar college career, many have rated him as a quarterback who could never make it in the NFL. Many critics of Tebow have sated that they do not see a long term NFL career for Tebow as a starting quarterback. However, this year Tebow has had a pretty good year. He has lead his team to the playoffs by winning so many close games. Now this is where the God factor comes in. So many people feel that Tebow does not have the natural ability to do what he is able to do at the end of the football games. This has led many people to believe that Tebow is able to win games in the 4th quarter and process because he has God and divine intervention on his side.

This has caused an uproar in our society. On one hand some people feel that God could care less about football and think that what Tebow has been able to do is just pure luck. While others, like myself, feel that although Tebow is a great competitor and football player, he also has God's favor on his life. It is because of God's favor on his life that allows him to do things in the 4th quarter that he cannot do in the first three quarters. I wholeheartedly believe that God would supernaturally intervene in a football game, especially when he knows that he could get glory out of it. Consider this, Tebow passed for 316 yards, many people have said this connects to John 3:16. Also in the fourth quarter their were 31.6 million viewers watching the game - John 3:16. On Monday, John 3:16 was one of the most typed words or statement in google. Furthermore, I was talking with a stranger this week. I was in the grocery store line and in talking with this person Tim Tebow came up. The person told me, without knowing that I was a pastor, how Tebow's success had caused the person to want to know the Lord and get closer to him. Wow! There has to be some connection. I was also listening to talk radio this week and so many callers called in sharing how Tebow had sparked conversation in their homes about God.

All I am saying is I never underestimate what God can do and will do in order to get his name out. Tebow is a young man who I believe is trying to live for God and give him glory. Now, if I know God like I think I know him, I know that God will use any vessel who has a open heart to be used. Therefore, my word for you today is let God use your life to bring him glory. No, you may not be a football player or a big time celebrity, but all of us have influence at some level. So anytime we have gained success and people want to know how we did it, let's learn from Tebow and thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At work, home, in our community, or wherever we are at, we all have opportunities to bring God glory. So let's do it; because not only will God use football, a donkey, or a Red Sea, but he will use anything that is available to help him get glory.

Well Denver has a big game tonight against New England. Whether Denver and Tebow win or lose, my prayer is that God will somehow be glorified. And yes, I want Denver and Tebow to win too. It would make it much better. Alright, I am out. By the way check out my favorite song up above. Peace.

A Strategy For A New Year

What's Up My People,

Happy New Year!!!! We made it to a new year. It is 2012 and despite all the mess and hell you had to endure last year, YOU MADE IT TO THIS YEAR!!!!! Man, I feel like shouting right now. As you can tell I am extremely excited about this new year. I truly believe, in 2012, God is going to move like he has never moved before. I am not seeking to prophe-lie but I want to encourage someone to believe by faith that this year will be the best year of your life. On this past Sunday, I shared with FMC in what I called "Vision Sunday." This was a time in which I shared with the church the vision for 2012. I explained what God has instructed us to do this year as a church, and I also shared with them what I needed from them in order to make the vision happen. I said all that to say, even in our own lives we need to have a vision and a plan for our lives. In other words, if you and I are going to succeed in 2012 we have to have a strategy.

The Bible says in Habakkuk that we should "write the vision and make it plain." So as your official encourager for 2012, I want to share with you 3 things I believe we all can do in order to make 2012 count. I believe if we heed to these 3 things that by the end of 2012, we will be telling a lot of people, I told you so. The key to the 3 strategies is giving it all we have this year. Going hard, no half stepping, giving this year all we got. So here are 3 strategic things we can do to prosper this year:

1. WALK IN LOVE

The first thing we need to do in 2012 to be effective is to walk in love. When I say walk in love, I mean loving people in our lives with all we got. Not that cheap love that do not cost us anything, but real love that causes us to make some sacrifices and go over and beyond to love. We all should begin by loving God hard. This year don't play with God. Give him your all. Give him your all in service, your all in reading the Word, your all in worship. As it relates to God, whatever you do this year, give it your all.

Then secondly, love your family hard. Brothers, let's love our wives hard. Let's tell them they're beautiful. Let's take them on a date at least once a week. Let's try to make love to them with regularity (I'm trying to help somebody). Brothers, let's give our wives all the love we got and they deserve. Sisters, love your husbands hard. Make them feel like the king that they are. No, they are not perfect, but they are striving to be a better man everyday. All he needs is a little love believe it or not. Then as it relates to our family, let's love our children hard. Let's raise them in a way that will be pleasing to God.

Thirdly, and finally, as it relates to walking in love and loving hard, this years let's love our haters hard. What? Yes, our haters. Instead of fighting them let's treat them the way Jesus said treat them: LOVE THEM!!!! This year let's love hard.

2. Follow The Holy Spirit

This year is our year not to be followers, but leaders. This year we have to recognize the greatest tool and weapon we have: THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you are a believer you have the Holy Spirit on the inside of you. So use him and let him do two things for you. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you direction and discipline. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is Romans 8:15, "As many that are led by the Spirit of God they are the children of God. " Plainly stated, this year don't make decision on your own; follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. I must warn you this will require you to spend time in His presence and cut off some stuff, but I assure you, in the end, it's well worth it. This year be a stronger leader by following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let him lead you as you lead others.

3. Live Life To The Fullest

Finally, after you have walked in love and followed the leading of the Spirit, then you must live life to the fullest. This year enjoy life. Have some fun, laugh a little, don't be afraid to let your hair down. Life is to be enjoyed. Jesus said, "I have come that you have life and have life more abundantly." So this year, I encourage to live hard. My mindset this year is that I will work harder than ever and I will also play harder then ever. When it is time to work, I'm gone bust it. I will work harder then ever to make the vision God gave me and dreams come true. At the same time, I will also enjoy the journey. It has been said, life is not about the destination, it is about the journey. And, I totally agree. This year join me in living life to the fullest.

So this year, make everyday count. Walk in love, follow the leading of the Spirit, and live life to the fullest; and watch this year be one of the best years of your life. I speak it into your life. This is your year!!!!! I'm praying for you.

What's Up My People,

I wanted to blog today to first of all wish all my followers and supporters of this blog, A Merry Christmas. We all know that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season! Christmas is not about accumulating stuff, but it is about admiring our Savior who is truly worthy of being praised. Secondly, I wanted to share with my peeps some good resources from the Word of God that I believe will be a blessing to you in your continued walked with God. Sharpen Your Axe

What's Up My People,

Today has been a very eventful and fruitful day. I am reeeeeallly tired tonight because this weekend has been a long one. The good news is that I got my babies back. The kids were in Georgia for a couple of weeks spending time with the grandparents. My wife and I went down to Georgia this weekend to pick them up and we got back in town with them late Saturday night. It is amazing on Sunday mornings how it seems like just when the sleep is getting good that all of a sudden the alarm clock sounds. That's what happened to me this morning, but I still pressed my way. Boy, I am glad I did because FMC was awesome!!! I just love my church and spending time in the presence of the Lord.

Today service was a trip. It started off with the choir and praise team leading us to worship and then all of a sudden they broke out in a dance called the"Herring Hustle." Now, I was totally shocked by the Herring Hustle. It was my first time hearing about it. I believe that the Herring Hustle comes from a movement I do sometimes when I am preaching. Oftentimes, I may make a point about Paul being on Damascus Road. Sometimes I may act out the point, and act like I'm Paul riding a horse on Damascus Road. Somehow, from this my precious members created a dance called the Herring Hustle and they performed it mighty well if I may say so myself...lol. They even got Lady herring and myself to do it for a little while. I really enjoyed it and had fun doing it. You never know what you are going to get any given Sunday at Faith Movers. That's why I love it!

The sermon today was entitled, "Preparing For Success By Using Your Faith." The last couple of months the Lord has really been dealing with me about the importance of faith. The Bible says, "that without faith it is impossible to please God." When we build our faith it will cause us to experience the supernatural and remove all obstacles in our lives. This is the main point that Solomon made in Ecclesiastes 10:10, "If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success." What Solomon is saying that a wise person will experience success because they know how to sharpen the tool (axe) that they have. One of the greatest tools God has given us is our faith. When we sharpen our faith by following and focusing on the Word of God it will help us cut down all the trees in our lives that are blocking us from experience the life that God has for us. If we want to be successful in 2012 then we must sharpen our axes-build our faith so that we can remove all the things that are blocking us from our blessing. Sharpen your axe!

We'll I cannot wait for what God has ahead for us all in 2012. As I always say, what's in front of you is greater than what's behind you. I believe wholeheartedly that God is getting ready to accelerate his people, especially those who are prepared for it. Start now by preparing yourself for what God has for you in 2012. The God Factor

What's Up My People,

Today is day 15 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Today is the last day of the "15 day" campaign. I tremendously enjoyed it as usual. Today, I wanted to blog about something I call The God Factor. Now anybody who knows me knows that I am a Tim Tebow fan. Tim Tebow is the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. I really appreciate him because not only is he a tough, competitive, and great football player; but I also admire how he stands on his faith as a Christian. Tebow is not ashamed to let people know that he believes in God and that Jesus Christ is his Lord & Savior. Now all year long, many people have doubted the ability of Tim Tebow. Many football experts have said that although Tebow is a tough and competitive football player there is no way he would be able to be a NFL quarterback. They questioned Tebow's skill set as a professional football quarterback, and claimed that he will never be a long term NFL quarterback. However, due to the what I want to call, "The God Factor" Tim Tebow has been able to hush all his critics by continuing to win football games.

Such was the case today when Tebow was playing against the team in the city in which I live, the Chicago Bears. Tebow, once again, made a 4th quarter comeback to win against a good and great defensive Bears' team. Now the Broncos are 7-1 since Tebow became their starting QB. The amazing part is that just about all seven games the Broncos won was done in the last couple of minutes in the game. The scenario usually goes like this, Tebow does not play well in the first three quarters then in the fourth quarter, "The God Factor" shows up, and Tebow is able to do the miraculous and help his team win the game. This is exactly what happened today when Tebow did it again and helped his team win another close game

Today, after the game was over I was listening to the different sports commentators and everyone was completely confused. No one was able to articulate the way that Tebow keeps on winning so many close football games when he lacks the skill of a NFL quarterback. My wife and I sat in amazement as we watched different sports commentators try to explain why Tebow seemingly is able to do the impossible. One person said it was "magic" and another person said "whatever it is". However, no one could explain how Tebow could be doing what he is doing with the skill set he has.

As I was watching all of this, it was clear to me that what Tebow has that "the world" cannot explain is the "The God Factor." The God Factor, is when the favor of God is on you to empower you to do what you normally should not be able to do. It was "The God Factor" that allowed Moses to open the Red Sea, it was The God Factor that helped Peter walk on water, and I could go on and on. Oftentimes, in life people underestimate children of God because they look at us based on our outter appearance and not realize, we have something greater. What we have is "The God Factor." When you have TGF you are able to do stuff that you were not normally able to do. When TGF is on your life, favor finds you, you do not have to look for it. Whatever you do in life, never underestimate the favor of God on your life. Always acknowledge Him and when you know you have it, remain faithful and never take credit for it. Always give the glory to God.

I am here to encourage somebody today that the same favor that is on Tebow is available to anyone who will completely sell out to God. When you totally live for God and humble yourself to him, he will put TGF on you. When TGF is on you, no one can stop you. On this last day of 15 days of Blogging With pastor Moses, I just want to speak favor on you. Walk in it and let TGF change your life for HIS glory. Favor is on you. Peace.

Dont Worry, Be Happy

What's up my people,

Tonight, I want to blog about the importance of not worrying and being happy. This is just a teaser for what we will be discussing tomorrow as we continue our current series, "Too Blessed To Be Depressed." Life is filled with stress and it is so easy to allow that stress to manifest itself into depression. Especially, in the season we are in now. Although this is a season to be thankful for the birth of Jesus, for many it is a stresseful time because the holiday season often reminds people of what they don't have or can't get. For the person who has lost a loved one, this season reminds them of the family members they no longer have. For the person who lost a job, this season sometimes reminds them of the pain of job loss because they may no longer have the resources to sustain or present others with gifts. For the person who is lonely, this season may remind them that they do not have a spouse. With Christmas being such beautiful time of the year, it can also cause some people to get down. However, my purpose is to encourage you to relax, not worry, and look to God during this time. Allow this time to be a time of thanks and concentrating on God's wonderful blessings! I always say, "Don't worry about what you don't have, thank God for what you do have!" Focus on God and don't worry. Allow Him to make you happy. Alright, I have got to save some for tomorrow. I can't wait for "Don't worry, Be happy." Be Blessed!

Our Good And Faithful God

What's up my people!

Today is day 13 of 15 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses. Whew! The time is flying by so fast. I can't believe we are fastly approaching day 15 of 15 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses. With that being said, as Christmas quickly approaches, let's remember the true meaning of Christmas and be uplifted. Although we exchange gifts with each other, never forget that the Christmas season is about the awesome, amazing birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Remember, we have so much to be thankful for and we all need to honor God for the wonderful things he has done. Be thankful that God never gave up on you, even when you gave up on God. Be thankful that He woke you up this morning. Be thankful that he let you see another day. Be thankful unto God for he is a good and faithful God. Be thankful that Jesus was not only born, but died to save us all(Oh my...if I were preaching I would say, "I feel my help coming"). God has been just that good to us! So, tonight I just want to remind us that God is a faithful God. As you listen, read the words, and remember the goodness of God and be thankful for him. Listen and Be blessed!

What's Up My People,

Today is day 12 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. On today, I would like to do something fun. Every year famed TV personality and talk show host Barbara Walters presents her 10 most fascinating people of the year. This is a coveted list that many actors, politicians, leaders, etc. appear on because of their uniqueness or their good/bad contribution to the world of entertainment. However, tonight I thought it would be interesting for me to share my "10 Most Fascinating People of 2011." The list is not in any particular order. The names are just randomly place on the list, 1-10. Now, I'm sure my list will be different from Barbra's, yet and still, I think my list is quite informative and intriguing. So here it goes Pastor Moses' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011:

10. Tyler Perry

His story is absolutely inspiring. From homelessness to becoming one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, and to make things better, he loves the Lord. Hallueeerr (in my Madea's voice..lol)

9. T.I. (Clifford Harris)

This young man is an rapper and actor who has faced many hardships within the last couple of years. Many young people look up to him, whether that's good or bad, it's true. However, I really senses that God has his hands on T.I. and God will one day use his life for his glory. Don't sleep on T.I., God can change anybody!!!!

8. Pastor Steven Furtick

This young pastor is the leader of an awesome church in Charlotte, NC called, Elevation Church. He is one of the most innovative pastors in the country and he is really doing it big for Jesus. In five years he has a weekly attendance of over 9,000 people. What an inspiration!

7. Herman Cain

A fellow Georgian, Herman Cain, was in the running for the Republican Nomination for President of The United States. However, things turned for the worst when allegations came out that he was involved in improper conduct with former female employees and then he was alleged to have been involved in a 13 year affair with a Georgia woman. Due to the allegations, he dropped from the Republican race. Lesson learned: don't try to be president if you got skeletons in your closet..I'm just saying.

6. Oprah Winfrey

Oprah, the talk show queen called it quits earlier this year, after 25 years of doing her show. No matter your personal feelings about her, you have to respect Queen Oprah.

5. Bishop Eddie Long

Perhaps the saddest story of last year and this year. The story of Bishop Long is really sad. However, it is a challenge to every leader to make sure that you maintain integrity & character, so that you won't have to bring shame to his name.

4. Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is a celebrity who has her own reality TV show and is well know for her Hollywood lifestyle. Ms. Kim gave us the most crazy headline of the year: married one day then divorce within 72 days. She really needs to order my series on relationships, especially those teachings on marriage...smh.

3. Tim Tebow

My man Tim is changing the game of football and he is doing it in the name of the Lord. I admire Tebow for not being ashamed to stand for HIS name. I'm not sure about his future in football but I think he will be a young man who impacts the world in a positive way, regardless of what he does.

2. Bishop TD Jakes

The great Bishop, what can you say about the "Pope of Pentecost." I just love Bishop Jakes. He is doing it all: pastoring, directing movies, building in 3rd world countries, and one of the greatest preachers of all time. Bishop Jakes, you are the man!!!!

1. Michelle Obama

Yes, I am totally fascinated with the First Lady of America. I really admire her style and great way she supports her husband. She is a great example of class and style. Proud to have her as America's First Lady.

We'll that's my top 10 list. What's yours? I know that 2011 has been an interesting year for me, but I can't wait for 2012. I believe this year is going to be the best year of my life. I claiming it now. We'll until tomorrow stay positive and be productive. Peace.

Overcoming Depression (Part II)

What's Up My People,

Today is day 11 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Today I want to give an update of a blog I did on Sunday, December 4th, entitled, "Overcoming Depression." At Believer's Night tonight, I did Part II of this sermon and it was awesome. Deliverance took place and so many were helped. On my last blog we listed five Causes of Depression, but at church tonight we looked at three Cures For Depression from Isaiah 61:1-3.

Before we review the cures, let's give some quick background to the book of Isaiah and our scripture. The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book which means it speaks of future events to come. Isaiah 61 is a messianic passage which talks about the coming of the future messiah or Jesus Christ. With this in mind, I would like to share the three cures with you tonight.

1. Receive Christ

Making Christ Lord of your life can deliver you from the spirit of depression. When you receive Christ, you receive his Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit enters into our lives HE comes bearing fruit. One of the fruit of the spirit is the fruit of joy. Joy is a great weapon that can defeat the spirit of depression. The Bible says in Nehimiah 8:10, "the joy of the Lord is our strength." When we receive Christ and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, we take a step in defeating the spirit of depression.

2. Release Your Circumstance

Isaiah 61:3, talks about an exchange that happens between Jesus Christ and his people. Isaiah says that Jesus will give us the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. The implication is that when we give Jesus our pain, He gives us his peace. When we give Jesus our hurt, he gives us his happiness. When we cast all of our cares and depression to Jesus he takes it and gives us his joy & peace.

3. Renew Your Conscience

Then Isaiah ends chapter 61:3 by saying that we renew our conscience by releasing our depression and receiving his joy; then we will become "trees of righteousness." God is able to take us from a place of pain and drepression to a place of strength. If we are willing to allow Christ to transform our lives, we can live a life of strength and beauty.

I want to end by encouraging everyone who has ever strugggled with depression that God is able to heal you and deliver you. Release your pains, fears, loss, stress, etc. over to God and God will give you the joy that comes with his Holy Spirit. Stay strong and walk in the joy of the Lord. Peace.

What Are You Expecting?

What's Up My People,

Today is day 10 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Today I want to encourage my peeps to begin to raise your level of expectation. As we get ready to enter into a new year it is a wonderful time to begin to prepare for the upcoming year. A great place to start in your preparation for the new year is by asking yourself a very needful and serious question: What are you expecting in 2012? I have learned that most of the time in life, you will experience whatever you are expecting. If you are expecting to live in poverty that's what you probably will experience. However, if you are expecting to be blessed, blessings are what you will experience. The proverbial writer put it this way, "How a man thinketh in his heart, so shall he be." If 2012 is going to be an effective year for you in your life, then you must first raise your level of expectation. Expect God to give you more wisdom this year, expect God to give you more peace this year, expect God to bless your family this year, expect God to give you more money this year (can I get what what), and even expect God to send you Mr. or Mrs. Right this year. Whatever you do begin now to expect God to do more for you this year than he did last year. So tonight I want to share with you, 3 ways you can raise your level of expectation.

1. Hear God's voice

If you want God to do something new in your life or set you on a new path, you must first learn how to hear something new from God. Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by "every" word that proceedth from the mouth of God." In 2012, don't depend on 2011 word's to carry you. You must spend time with God and be willing to hear his voice so that you can hear the new thing that God has for you. If you fail to hear God's voice, you will be forced to live off an old, dead, and dry word that has served its purpose & place in your life. In 2012 be ready to hear the new and fresh word that God has for your life. Expect to hear new and fresh perspective for the life God has for you. The more you hear God's voice, the more your expectation will rise.

2. Take The Limits Off

In 2012, don't limit God to what you think he is able to do. The Bible says, God is able to do, exceedingly abundantly all you can ask or think. Don't limit God with your human expectations, step into the spiritual, the supernatural and expect God to do things for you that will blow your mind. If you can expect you can experience it.

3. Dare To Be Different

In 2012 don't try to be like everybody else doing the same ole same ole. Dare to different! Challenge yourself to expect God to do something for you that he has never done for you before. Don't seek to fit in the mold of other peoples expectation for you. Think outside the box, create a new box, and believe God to do some stuff for you, you cannot do for yourself.

I don't know about you, but in 2012, your boy is expecting God to totally blow my mind. My faith is growing stronger every day. I truly believe the stuff I am expecting, it won't be long until I will be experiencing it. Don't let me experience all God's blessings by myself. Join me in the journey to be blessed! Overcoming Depression

What's Up My People,

This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice in be glad in it. Today is day 8 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Tonight, I want to blog about the wonderful worship service I had today at Faith Movers Church. As I stated on yesterday's blog, today at FMC we begin a new preaching series entitled, "Too Blessed To Be Depressed." The Lord truly blessed our service and I believe that many people were helped and encouraged. Depression is a subject that is not often preached about or even talked about in church. However, God encouraged me as I begin pastoring not to ever shun from subjects that I know effect people in a serious way. Therefore, I take pride in teaching on matters like this because I know it effects so many people. However, at the same time I know that God is able to bring deliverance.

Today my goal was to highlight some major factors that causes depression. And, on Wednesday, at Believer's Night, I will deal with the "cures" for depression according to the Word of God. Although, there are a multiplicity of factors that can led to depression, our goal today was to highlight the 5 major factors that led to depression. So tonight, I want to share these factors with you.

1. Pain From The Past

Many people suffer from depression because they have experienced extreme pain in their past. Whether it is abuse or past hurt, when we have been hurt in our past, if we are not careful, it can lead to depression.

2. Fear of The Future

Another major factor that leads to depression is the fear of the unknown. The Bible says in Proverbs 12:25, "Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression.." In other words, when we live in fear it can cause us to be doubtful of God and not live our best life now, which in return can lead to a life of depression.

3. Loss in Life

The next major factor that can cause depression is loss. The loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the loss of a relationship can lead someone to a state of despair and hopelessness.

4. Toxic Thoughts

The Bible says in Proverbs, that how a man thinks so is he. When we think wrong thoughts it will cause us to do wrong things. If we think depressing thoughts it want be long until we are depressed.

5. Stressful Situations

The last and most common cause of depression is stress. Stress is a silent killer. When we live a life of stress, it can cause you to lose their passion for life which, in return, will cause you to be in a place of depression. If we do not handle stress, stress will handle us.

So today we dealt with the causes but on Wednesday we are going to deal with how we can be delivered from the spirit of depression. Let me close with giving someone an encouraging word. It does not matter how down you may be, whether you are down and depressed due to pain, fear, loss, bad thoughts, or stress, know that God is able to bring deliverance to your life. The psalmist encouraged, that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. I can't wait to blog to you on Wednesday night to share with you the cures to depression. God is able and together we will overcome the spirit of depression. Stay strong. Peace.

Too Blessed To Be Depressed

What's up my people,

I am so excited about tomorrow. Tomorrow, at FMC we will be entering into our new preaching series, "Too Blessed To Be Depressed." I am especially excited about this series because I think this issue of depression is one that we never discuss in church. We graze over it, but a lot of the time, we don't dedicate the necessary time and attention needed to the subject matter. Depression is a real issue that effects many people, both Christians and non-christians. Many of us know people who are depressed or who struggle with depression,or perhaps you, personally, struggle with depression. Yet we don't know how to deal with the depression (especially spiritually). Therefore, we really need to talk about this subject so that we can be free and also see what the Word of God has to say about the issue. So tomorrow I am excitied to start our new series so that we can start unpacking depression biblically. Let's let the word do the work tomorrow! I will see you there!

When Shepherd's Fall

What's Up My People,

Today is day 6 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Today I want to blog about a sensitive subject. What should we do as believers when our spiritual shepherds fall? All day long reports have been surfacing of the divorce of megapastor and global church leader, Bishop Eddie Long, Senior Pastor of New Birth MBC in Atlanta, GA. Bishop Long was and is considered by many one of the greatest spiritual leaders of our time. He became pastor of NBMC in 1987 when the church, at that time, had 300 members. In early 2010 the church had grown to over 28,000 members. Many revered Bishop Long as a great leader and looked up to him as a great man of God. However, in the fall of 2010 things quickly begin to change for Bishop Eddie Long.

In September of 2010, four young men alleged that Bishop Long coerced them into sexual activity in exchange for cars, jewelery, and other gifts. This news shocked the Christian community and left many people flabbergasted. So many people could not believe how such a great shepherd and pastor could be involved in such an unusual and sad wrongdoing. Earlier this year, Bishop Long decided to settle out of court with his accusers in order for him and NBMC to be able to move forward. Today, reports surface that Bishop Eddie Long's wife had filed for divorce after 21 years of marriage. Then around lunch time another report came out saying that the Bishop's wife had decided to stay with her husband and try to believe God for healing for their marriage. Then this evening in another turn of events the Bishop's wife sent out a statement through her attorney saying that she decided to go through with the divorce of her husband.

As you can imagine, backlash from this situation has been enormous. Many people are just lost for words and do not know how to quite handle a situation like this. Oftentimes, as I interact with people, I am asked the question, "How do you deal with a pastors who seemingly has gone down a bad road?" Now honestly, this is always a tough question. I am someone who has always had a strong respect and value for leadership, especially spiritual leadership. I think the answer to this question has a lot to deal with who you are and how you are in relationship with the pastor.

For example, if you are a member of a church of a pastor who has seemingly gone down a bad road, I believe (and I stress the word "I"), I believe that you should first pray. After you pray and seek God, then you want to make sure that you are as fully educated about the situation as possible. Sometimes people can spread rumors or sometimes what appears to be the truth is not always the truth. If it appears that a spiritual leader has fallen into sin, I think it is always good to give the leader an opportunity to repent. The Bible is clear, that all have sin and come short of God's glory. Not to justify any behavior, but my point is that all of us are prone to make mistakes. The Bible teaches if someone messes up and truly repents, then we as believers should seek to forgive and try to enter into reconciliation (which is a process, not an overnight thing). However, if a pastor has fallen and it is clear that they have fallen, and they appear to be unrepentant of their wrongdoing, then, you want to pray to God and begin the process of transition. I do not believe that God wants us to be under unrepentant sin. This does not bring glory to God in any way. Furthermore, it brings shame to the kingdom and everyone who is apart of the body of Christ feels the blow.

Now, if a leader falls who is not your pastor, but you may or may not be familiar with them, I believe the best thing you can do for that leader is pray for them. The bible says in Galatians 6:1-2, "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." I love this scripture. I quote it all the time because this scripture teaches us how we should handle people who have fallen. The scripture encourages us to seek to restore them. Well, how do we do that? We do it by praying for them. The reason the scripture says we should do that because we should consider ourselves lest we fall into temptation. Understand, that anytime a major Christian figure messes up, it does not only effect them but it effects all of us who profess Christ. There are some people who are just waiting for something to happen to discredit the church and the body of Christ. This is why we have to pray for the person who fell and those who are affected by the fall.

In closing, I hope you have caught a trend in this blog. The trend is that whenever a shepherd falls, the first thing we should do and the last thing we should do is: PRAY!!! When we pray, what we are doing is putting the situation in God's hands. As it relates to Bishop Long, this is an extremely bad situation. I have always admired his ministry from afar. However, after hearing the allegation like most people I was shocked and surprised. Ever since I have heard the allegations, I have been praying, and still now I am praying. I also will encourage every believer to pray for Bishop Long and his family. Pray for not only him but pray for everyone involved in the Bishop Long situation. Pray for the Long family, the victims involved in this case, NBMC, and everyone connected to this ministry.

Lastly, for every pastor, let us seek to continue to take proactive steps to prevent this type of situation. We can do this by seeking to conquer our dark side, love our wives, keep God first, make time for our family, and surround ourselves around people who will hold us accountable. What to do when shepherd's fall: PRAY. So let's keep praying. Peace and be blessed.

Thinking Your Way Happy

What's Up My People,

Tonight is day 5 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. I have truly enjoyed the blogging thus far and I trust that these blogs has been a blessing to those who have read them. Tonight, I want to talk about the importance of renewing your mind. The bible says in Romans 12:2; "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect". This is a powerful scripture. It is so powerful because it gives us great insight on how we can think ourselves into a transformed life of happiness. Believe it or not you have to choose to be happy. Happiness is a choice. Many people are not happy because they don't choose to be happy. They chose to be sad, angry, bitter, or unhappy and this usually leads to a life of unhappiness. Paul encourages us in Romans 12:2, that we must change our thinking if we want to change our life. There are many people today that can experience a transformed life of happiness and joy only if they change the way they think. So tonight I want to share three keys that I believe if a person will follow as it relates to their thinking, will help them experience a transform life. Regardless, of how bad things are or regardless of how hopeless one may feel. If you change your thinking your life will change, so here are the three keys.

1. Focus and think about the life you want instead of the life you have

You have to learn how to see yourself in the life you want to live in instead of seeing yourself where you are at now. The bible says, we can call those things that are not as though they are. Don't settle for where you are, think and stay focus on the road you are getting ready to walk on.

2. Focus and think about what you can do today to transform your life tomorrow

One of the keys to having a successful to life is to always strive to keep pressing foward and be progressive. The God we serve is a progressive God, and He is always moving and pressing forward. Therefore, as God's children we too must be like our heavenly father, determined to grow and press toward the next level. Now the next level will not happen overnight, but the key is to do something positive and productive "today" that will help you reach your goal in life tomorrow. Think and focus on one thing you can do today that will help you get to the next level tomorrow.

3. Focus and think about God's promises instead of your problems

As believers we have certain promises that God has given to us in his Word. We must be diligent about reading God's Word and discovering his promises and walking in them. When we discover God's promises, we will understand that they are bigger and more powerful than our problems. Therefore, instead of thinking and concentrating on our problems, let's focus and believe God to receive his promises. Remember the Bible says "He will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on him."

I pray this has encouraged somebody to stay positive and remove all the stinking thinking out of your life. Your best life is ahead of you not behind you. Walk in it! Peace.

An Awesome Believer's Night - Suddenly

Tonight is day 4 of 15 days of Blogging with Pastor Moses. Tonight I am so full because I have just participated in one of the greatest church services in my life. The spirit of God was so thick in the house tonight at Faith Movers, words cannot express the impact it had on my life and the people of God lives. All month in November we have been in a "suddenly season", and tonight it just all came together. I just want to continue to encourage the people of God to continue to build your faith by hearing the Word, receiving the word, believing the Word, speaking/mediating on the Word, and acting out on the Word, and you will experience the ~acceleration power~ of God. Know that in this season of your life God wants to do some awesome things in your life and he wants to do it suddenly. It's your season for acceleration. 3 Keys To Effective Church Planting

What's Up My People,

Welcome to day 3 of 15 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses. Today, I want to talk about ministry and share some of my personal experiences in ministry. I have dedicated my life to ministry and being a servant of the Lord. I have attended and graduated from Bible College. I have obtained a Masters of Divinity from seminary, and I am soon to be a Doctor of Ministry candidate. Therefore, I consider myself to know a little about the exciting burdensome joy of ministry. As the pastor of a great young church, I know the blessings and stress of ministry.

The church I pastor, Faith Movers Church, is a church that was started from scratch and organized in June of 2011. Due to God's faithfulness, Faith Movers is a growing and vibrant ministry. During the last couple of months many pastors have contacted me wanting to know some ideas and suggestions on how to successfully organize or plant a church. Now, I am by no means an expert on planting a church. However, anytime I can help someone, especially in ministry, I do all I can to help. Therefore, today I wanted to blog about some helpful keys and insights that I found helpful and effective in church planting. I have 3 keys to share and I will be done for tonight.

1. Make sure God has called you to be a church planter

One thing that is paramount in being a successful pastor is to know what kind of pastor God has called you to be. Every pastor is not called to plant or organize a church. God calls some pastors to begin a work, and he calls other pastors to build upon a work that is already in existence. In other words, some pastors are called to organize a church and other pastors are called to go into an established church and build a ministry that has already been organized.

Some pastors prefer to go into a church that is already established. For them, they work best in transitioning a church into the church that God desires. These pastors have the patience to enter into an established church and make changes that are necessary in order to produce a ministry that is effective. Other pastors feel led to organize or plant a church. Now this has to be a calling because planting a church is hard work. You begin with nothing: no staff, no musicians, no equipment, no people, no building, no money....I think you get my drift.

Now, the way you know whether you are an organizing pastor or a pastor who ministers to an established church is based upon two things. #1 What has God called you to be? You have to have a relationship with God to the point that you can discern his voice in order to know the will of God for your life as a pastor. #2. Do you have the patience it takes to enter an established church and make the necessary changes and transitions in order to make the ministry effective? You have to be patient with people who are apart of a system of ministry already in place. You have to be patient enough with them until they reach the point that they are ready to make the necessary changes in order for the ministry to go forward. If you feel you don't have the patience to work with people or their system, then God could have placed a call in your heart to begin a fresh and new work for him.

2. Connect with a mentor who has been where you are trying to go

No person is an island. Everyone needs somebody they can connect with and have community with. This is especially true in ministry. If Joshua had his Moses, if Elisha had his Elijah, if Noami had her Ruth, if Timothy had his Paul, if Jesus had his John The Baptist; you will need someone in your life who can mentor you and help you get to the place where God wants you to be. In church planting, you will encounter so many problems that you never thought about. I remember as I was preparing for the first service at Faith Movers, I can remember trying not to forget about certain things like, offering buckets and church envelopes. There are so many things you have to plan and think about. Therefore, you need someone in your life who can coach you and help you be successful. This person needs to be someone who has already walked the path you are trying to navigate. You need to have access to them so that you can ask them anything, no matter what, and allow them to speak in your life and help you stay on the right path. Mentorship is crucial.

3. Build a team of people around you who you can trust and who believe in you

This is very important. No one can do all things by themselves. Organizing a church takes a lot of work. You have to have people on your team who you can trust and know they have your best interest at heart. More importantly, you need people who believe in you and what God has invested in you. There is no way Faith Movers could be where it is now, if there were not people who believed in me and encouraged me along the way. When you have people who love you and believe in you, that is something special. Never take them for granted and do all you can to love them and equip them to be able to do the work of ministry. It takes a team to do ministry. As a leader, you have to be able to put the right people in the right place. This takes spiritual wisdom and being totally led by the Holy Spirit. If you build a good team around you who can help you and encourage you, you have a much better chance of being successful in organizing a church.

Well that's it. I have preached by sermon for today..lol. I hope this helped and encouraged somebody. Church planting is so necessary in order to spread the gospel to the utmost part of the earth. It is my prayer that God will continue to speak to leaders to step out and trust him; and plant healthy, vibrant, and relevant churches that will change our world for the better (Acts 1:8). Let's Protect Our Children

Welcome to day 2 of 15 days of blogging with Pastor Moses. Today I want to talk about an issue that is dear to my heart, and that is the recent news of all the alleged child abuse cases in our nation. Close to a month ago, the nation was shocked to learn that at Penn State University, the former defensive coordinator had been accused of molesting numerous young boys during his tenure at Penn State and as President of an organization that he started to help young boys. Then more recently the assistant basketball coach at Syracuse University was fired due to allegations of abusing young children. Even in the religious community, many Catholic priests were accused and found guilty of molesting children. Then the body of Christ was flabbergasted to learn that a mega pastor in Atlanta was accused of coercing young teenagers into sexual activity. With all these recent allegations concerning the abuse of young children, it causes one to have to ponder the question, "What is going on in our society that causes people to feel so comfortable abusing and harming innocent children who cannot protect themselves?"

Back in the day, many people thought these were the kinds of things that happened in the back woods of the country. However, you can go online and search for sexual predators within your community and may be shocked to learn the person living down the street may be guilty of abusing young children. Oftentimes, in society, there is no forum where people can discuss these types of issues out in the open. Most times, it is inappropriate to have these types of discussions in school and, unfortunately, the church does not speak on this issue until there is a scandal or an incident that happens within a local church. Even then, most of the time, the incident is encouraged to be swept under the rug or dealt with behind close doors.

Yet, I feel it is important that as responsible parents and Christians that we begin to educate ourselves and, more importantly, our children on the importance of being aware of our surroundings and who we interact with. Most sexual predators are cunning and manipulative in their methods of coercing and abusing children. Therefore, it is important to teach our children to not be ashamed to speak up when someone has inappropriately spoken to them or touched them. We have to clearly articulate to our children what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior, especially when they interact with adults. We have to make sure that our children feel comfortable and not ashamed to come to us or someone in authority when they have been abused or harmed in any way. Then finally, we must all be 'Good Samaritans' and do as the Bible say and be our "brother's keeper." It is unethical and immoral to withhold information that you may know concerning the abuse of a child. There should be no one who is above the law. There should be no one that we esteem so highly that we do not hold them accountable for the harm they do to a child. So at any time, as an adult, that we become aware of any inappropriate behavior that is being done to a child, our first step is to tell the local police and to do all we can to get that child out of that situation or environment.

In closing, let me encourage so many people, who may have been molested or harmed as a child. Although you experienced pain, hurt, and abuse, know that God loves you and is concerned about your well-being. I would encourage you to form a relationship with someone you can trust and talk to about the hurts of your past or even engage in therapy and counseling in order to gain wholeness and healing in your life. More importantly, begin to form a relationship with Jesus Christ and allow the healing power of the Holy Spirit to minister to you. The great the thing about God is he can take our misery and turn it into a ministry. He can take our tragedy and turn it into a testimony. So family, let's do all we can to try to prevent the abuse and the endangerment of young people everywhere. Let's pray for the sick people who hurt children that they too would change and come to know the redemptive power of Jesus Christ. Let's pray for children everywhere. I know that this was heavy tonight, I will try to be a little lighter tomorrow. Peace.

3 Things I Am Thankkful For

What's Up My People,

I am incredibly excited about 15 days of blogging with Pastor Moses. This time of sharing is going to be powerful and life changing. There is so much to blog about due to the fact there is so much going on in the world today. However, I wanted to kick off day 1 by bragging about the goodness of God and listing things things that I am thankful for. Oftentimes in life, we spend the bulk of our time complaining about what we don't have that we fail to realize what we do have. As for me personally, I am totally overwhelmed and consumed by the goodness of God. God is truly good. It's not just cliche, but it should be a statement of fact in all of our lives. So these are the three things that I am thankful for in this 'thanksgiving season'.

The first thing I am thankful for is my purpose. I can remember a time in my life when I felt lost and did not know where to go next in my life. I was not where I wanted to be and I knew that God had so much more for me in my life. I remember staying up late some nights praying to God to lead and guide me to a place of purpose. Now, when I look at my life, I am just so grateful to God for answering my prayer and leading me to where I am now. I can truly say with a 100% assurance that I am exactly where I am supposed to be in life. I have the wife God wants me to have. I have the kids God has ordained for me to have (although I do want more, but my wifey trippin..lol), and I know I am pastoring the church the God wants me to lead. There is nothing like being in the will of God. I would give nothing for my life right now. The Chicago Bulls could offer me 25 million dollars to leave my life and play alongside D-Rose and I would emphatically say "no thank you" without thinking twice about it. I know I am right where I'm suppose to be. So I am first of all thankful to God for leading me to my purpose in life as a husband, father, pastor, family member, friend, and leader. Thank you God for purpose.

But secondly, I am thankful for patience. Not the patience that I possess, but the patience that others have and give toward me. I thank God that my wife is patient with me. I know it's hard to believe, but I can be a mess! No, for real though, I can. But I thank God for a wife that can see me at my worst and still love me and cover me. She does not only know Pastor Moses, but she knows Moe-cheeks. I also thank God for my church for being patient with me. I know that I am not the leader I am going to be. God is still growing me, equipping me, and developing me. However, as a Pastor there are many times that I make mistakes and wish I could do better at my assignment. Yet, my church is always so gracious with me and never doubts my motives even when my methods could be better. I am grateful because I truly have a great church with great people. I thank God for my family and friends and their patience with me, I could definitely be a better son, brother, cousin, or just friend. But, I thank God for those who are close to me for being patient with me. I know that God is completing a great work in me to make me better in every area of my life and I thank the people in my life and community for working with me until the work is done.

Finally, I am thankful for potential. People ask me all the time what I am most excited about in my life? The answer is simple, I am excited about the potential that is in my life. I thank God at this point in my life that I have the potential to be a better servant to God. My personal goal in life is to grower closer to Christ. I am not where I need to be in my relationship, but I am excited about the potential I have in God. If I only pray more, worship, study the Word more, and seek him more; the sky is the limit to what God can do through me and in me. I am also thrilled about the potential I have to be a better husband and father. I constantly want to grow in this area because my first responsibility in life is to my family. I may not be the man I need to be yet, but the potential to be the man I want to be, simply excites me to want to keep striving. Finally, I am excited about the potential of the ministry that God has entrusted me with. I don't think Faith Movers is just a church but I believe it is a "movement" that God has ordained in this season of life. FMC's potential is outrageous! We have accomplished a lot in a short period of time but there is still so much to do. There are more souls to save, lives to change, buildings to build for God, and more people to help. I know if I continue to be led by the Spirit of God, honor my wife and family that God can use me as a leader to lead a move of God that can impact the world. Wow, I thank God for potential!

Well that's enough. I am thankful to God for what he is doing in my life. I sense that the best is yet to come in my personal and spiritual life. In this season of thanksgiving, I am thankful for my purpose. I am thankful for patience, and I am thankful for the potential that I have to make God proud. In all things be thankful for this is the will of God (I Thessalonians 5:18). Peace. We'll holla tomorrow.

I Wish The Whole Church Would Catch On Fire

What's Up My People,

It has been a while since I had an opportunity to share with you via cyberspace. However, I am so glad to be communicating with my people today. Today, I had to blog about the awesome time we had today at Faith Movers. All month long, I have been preaching about, "Overcoming Dysfunctional Relationships." This series has been a blessing to so many at FMC. I truly enjoyed ministering each week, and I believe that the people of God was helped in a significant way. Today, we closed out the series with a message entitled, "I Wish The Whole Church Would Catch On Fire." Oh man, we had a phenomenal time in the Lord.

Worship today was hot from the beginning. When I entered into our sanctuary, I could sense that God was up to something. The message came from the Book of Acts chapter 2 and the events that took place on the day of Pentecost. The spirit of God moved so much during the message that I just had to stop right in the middle of the sermon and allow God to minister to his people. We say all the time in church, "God have your way" and when he tries, we usually stop him. However, today there was no stopping God. HE wanted to move and it did not matter that I was still preaching, HE had to have his way, and I am so glad he did because the sermon ended up being a illustrative sermon. I was preaching about the church catching on fire and that is exactly what happened. The entire church caught on fire and people were healed, blessed, and delivered. I can still feel his presence even now as I type this blog. I absolutely love what God is doing at FMC. It is not church as usual, but it is a move of God. I am just glad to be a part of it.

So since I did not finish my message, I thought I would give all my people the rest of my outline. It is a wonderful thing when we as believers catch on fire for God. So as we use to say back in the day, "The church, the church, the church is on fire, we don't need no water let the Holy Spirit burn, burn Holy Spirit, burn Holy Spirit". I love it. Keep smoking!!!

5 Things To Consider When Making Faith Moves

What's Up My People,

Today I want to blog about something that I get asked about a whole lot. Within the last couple of months, many people have approached me about a particular question. The question they have asked is this: "Pastor, Moses, Rev. Herring (whatever people call me..you get my point) how do you make a faith move?" Now, this question is never an easy question to answer because the reality is making faith moves are not an easy thing to do. However, I truly believe that faith moves are necessary in order to get to the next level in life and maximize your full potential in life.

First of all let me define what a faith move is. A faith move is when you step on faith, in order to obey what God is speaking to you, without seeing the future details of how you are going to accomplish it, survive it, and/or maintain your current lifestyle. See, I told you that faith moves are not easy, but remember they are necessary. Anyone in the Bible that did anything significant for God first had to make a faith move: Abraham (leaving his family), Noah (building an ark), David (fighting Goliath), Elijah (calling down fire from heaven), Peter (walking on water), Paul (following Jesus on Damascus road) and of course JESUS (dying on the cross). You cannot get around it. If you want to please God and leave an extremely blessed life, you cannot play it safe. You must be willing to bust a move! So here are 5 things you must consider when making a faith move.

5. Stay faithful

Once you make your move and you know you have obeyed God, stay the course. Although things may not go the way you want or thought, stay faithful. God rewards faithfulness!!!!

4. Know the cost

When making your move you have to know what it will cost you. Faith moves are not free, they always cost something. Be prepared to pay the cost, but it's always worth it.

3. You must be more concerned about God than people

Never allow people to hinder you from obeying God. 90% of people play it safe. So in making faith moves you will always appear weird, crazy, unstable, or peculiar. Remember, God is your source and your boss, obey him!!!

2. Never look back

Once you bust your move: NEVER SECOND GUESS YOURSELF. Never try to find a way to go back from what you walked away from. Your blessing is in your future not your past.

1. Make sure you heard from God

You cannot authorize your own faith moves. The authorizations of faith moves come from God. When making a faith move make sure you heard God clearly. If you are not sure then don't move. But I promise this, if it is God you will 100% know.

We'll that's it. That's my two cent on making faith moves. So, now go out there a bust some faith moves!!!!

What's Up My People,

I hope all is well with you today. I am glad to be back at it once again, blogging and sharing my thoughts with you. I wanted to blog about how I had a great week last week. Although it was busy and full at the same time it was informative, exciting, and eventful. On last week, I had the awesome privilege of attending "The Gathering of The Shepherds", a conference by the one and only Pastor R.A Vernon. This conference is designed for Pastors and Leaders to help them better maximize their ministry potential. I have been attending this conference for the last couple of years and each time it has been a blessing. However, this time I was able to take my FMC family and boy, did we have an awesome time! We learned so much about ministry at the next level. More importantly, we learned how to do ministry in a spirit of excellence.

Oftentimes, in church, ministry is not always done in a spirit of excellence. In almost every other venue in life, especially the business world, companies, banks, etc. seek to handle their business in a excellent way. Unfortunately, it is only when it comes to church that we as Christians feel that we do not have to do ministry in an excellent way. The sad thing is that we have the most important product and that's, "salvation". One of the greatest compliments in the Bible to a person came when the Bible said the Daniel had an excellent spirit (Daniel 6:3). That means that everything Daniel did he did it with an excellent spirit. He did it to the best of his ability, no half stepping, no playing around, just doing everything in professional way. This is how the church of the Lord should be, all we do, we should do it to the best of our ability. From greeters, to the parking lot people, to the music ministry all the way down the preaching of the Word. It all should be done in a spirit of excellence!

"Excellence" is what I took away from Pastor Vernon and The "Word" Church. Everything they did was done in a professional, loving, and excellent way. It was a great example to myself and my staff that if we are going to reach the next level it involves all of us taking our services to the next level. One thing I have learned in three months of ministry and that is whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability. People appreciate excellence, and if anybody deserves to be treated like first class people, it is the people of God. So my encouragement to you today is that whatever God has called you to do or wherever you serve in ministry, do it to the best of your ability. Job said, "My witness is heaven and my record is on high (Job 16:19)." Do everything like God is watching and can I tell you a little secret: HE IS!!!!

So to all my people, do your best. God will reward you for your faithfulness and your desire to live with a spirit of excellence. Give your all!

What's Up My People,

Today is the final day of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." Where has our time gone? This journey has been a blessing to me and I hope it has been a blessing to you. It was my goal within these blogs to encourage you, inform you, and inspire you daily to be the best you can be in life. I hope my goal was some what accomplished. But, it is not over here. One good thing that these 30 days of blogging did for me was get me in the routine of blogging. Therefore, I will be blogging more often and sharing my thoughts, ideas, and feelings with my people.

I am excited about tomorrow. Wednesdays are always exciting for me because I love Believer's Night at FMC. This upcoming believer's night will be great! I will continue my teaching on Who's The Boss: Kingdom Authority. This preaching series has been a blessing to me personally. As I have been teaching this series, it has helped me to appreciate what it means to be a believer. As a believer, we have been given total authority to rule and reign on this earth with no restrictions. Wow, that is so powerful. So, on tomorrow, I will continue to build my case that as believers we are in charge and God has given us the responsibility to establish the kingdom of God on earth.

Now if you think this current series has been great. Wait until October. The preaching series for October will be, Overcoming Dysfunctional Relationships. This series will be life changing one. I promise. I will be preaching this series in four parts: Marriage Relationships, Parenting Relationships, Dating Relationships, and Church Relationships. I believe this series will be one of the most powerful series the Lord has ever allowed me to do. If you are anywhere near Chicago in October, you have to get to Faith Movers. Get here by plane, boat, skateboard, whatever, October is going to be hot at FMC. Later this week, I will tell you some other great things we will be doing in October to supplement our preaching series. It's a great time to be a Faith Mover!!!

What's Up My People,

Today is day 29. I wanted to repost one of my blogs that got the most hits of all time. I felt lead tonight to share it with someone again. Enjoy!

Let me ask you a question, "Have you ever felt like giving up?" If you did not answer "yes," you are a liar, liar and your pants are on fire. It is normal to feel like giving up every now and then. There is nothing wrong with feeling like giving up as long as you do not give up. I was at a conference a couple of weeks ago and the instructor asked all the pastors at the conference, how many ever felt like giving up. Very quickly all the pastors raised their hands. Then the instructor asked another important question. He asked, "Why is it that you feel like giving up?" I think this question is crucial. We must be honest with ourselves and ask ourselves why we feel the way we feel. Once we answer that question, then we must investigate how we allowed it to happen to us. In prayer recently, I asked God for encouragement and strength. The Lord began to speak to me and tell me why it is so important that in life we never give up on God, ourself, and our dreams. I got five reasons from the Lord, and I hope they bless you and encourage you.

5. Seasons Change.

If you are in a bad season, hang in there. The law of nature says your season will change soon!

4. If You Quit, You Forfeit God's Glory.

The only way God can get glory out of your situation is you must allow it to play out.

3. You Cannot Win The Game, If You Quit In The Middle of It

Too many times we quit too soon. The moment you quit is the moment you are about to win.

2. By Quiting You Make Satan Think He Won The Battle

Never allow your enemies to think that they made you quit. Only do so when God says so.

1. If Jesus Didn't Quit On Us, We Cannot Quit On Him

Don't ever forget Jesus' promise that he will never leave us nor forsake us.

What's up my people,

Today is day 27 of "30 days of blogging with Pastor Moses." Today, I am a little saddened because my team, the Florida State Seminoles, lost the game. This is the second time in a row that my team was beaten by Oklahoma. Florida State got beat by Oklahoma last year, but at least this year, it was not an embarrassing loss. Although Florida State lost, they can walk away with dignity knowing they gave it their all. That leads me to my blog for today: whatever you do, do your best. Don't half-step, for the sake of saying you put some effort in, but always give your best.

In life, when we don't like the road ahead of us, the person we have to deal with, or the job we have to complete, we tend to put forth a half-hearted effort at completing the task, dealing with the person, or working the job. However, in whatever we do we must always give our best and our all. Remember, as a child of God, you are not only representing yourself, but you are reflecting God. Give your all, so that at the end of the day, you can walk away with dignity knowing that you've done all you can. Like my 'Noles today, although things may not go your way, always put forth your best effort to win the game. Put your best foot forward and you won't have to wonder "What if I would have tried?" So whatever you've got to do or face, give it your all, do your best, knowing that all is possible through Christ (Philippians 4:13).

Keep Him First

What's up my people,

This is day 26 of "30 days of Blogging with Pastor Moses." Wow! This journey of blogging everyday is slowly coming to an end. I just can't believe we have been blogging for 26 days. We only have four days of blogging left. We have covered and shared so many things in a short amount of time. So many things have happened. When I begin this journey, I did not know so many great things would occur so quickly: our website, introducing our new preaching series, concluding "The Gospel of Reality TV," and much more. Only a few more blogs to go and can't believe it.

As I recognize that time is flying, I also realize and want to encourage readers to stay committed to whatever you have chosen to do. If you have decided to pay down debt, go back to school, lose weight, whatever your decision, be encouraged that once you start and are committed to it, it will come to pass. Keep the Lord first in whatever you do and stay disciplined and you will accomplish your goal. Only God can give you the discipline to complete a difficult task. You must remember to keep him first, in front of the task. Don't put the task in front of God, put the God before the task. Remember, the Bible says in Matthew 6: 33 (NKJV), " But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." When we seek God first, everything else just falls into place and can be accomplished. Stay in prayer, keep pressing forward to complete your task, and continue to be disciplined.

What's Up My people,

Today is day 25 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." We are at the tail end of our job. It is my prayer that you have enjoyed these 30 days like I have. Tonight, I want to blog about something a little lighter and funnier than usual: MOVIES. This afternoon, I overheard a conversation about something that I love to do and that is watch movies. Watching movies is so relaxing to me and I enjoy the opportunity to sit and relax and be entertained. One of my first dates with my wife was at the movies. We have enjoyed going to movies and watching them every since. Well as I was being nosy (lol) and listening to someone else conversation, I could not help but hear the people talk about what their all time favorite movies was. The conversation got so heated about their top 5 movies of all times that they almost had to be separated.

However, as I was listening, I begin to think what are my top 5 movies of all times. Since I love watching movies it was so hard for me but I finally got them narrowed down to five. So, here are my fab 5 movies of all time:

5. Rocky: Part 1 & 4

You got to love Sylvester Stallone's Rocky-.... so inspirational. When you finish watching them you feel like you can conquer the world! "Yo Adrian...."

4. The Lion King

I know, I know.. it is a kid's move but there are so many great themes in this movie, an all time classic.

3. The Last Dragon

Come on, everybody loves the Last Dragon, right? "Whose the master: Sho Nuff...."

2. Forest Gump

I can watch this movie five times in one day.. I love it!!!

1. Love & Basketball

Yes, it is a chick flick but it reminds me of Cresha and I. The long relationship thing. Great movie!!!

Well that is my fab 5. What's yours? If you don't have one, then you need to get a life. For real though, take some time for yourself and relax. Enjoy a good movie and get your mind off work, bills, stress, etc. If Jesus can attend a wedding party (John 2), then you can have a life too. Confessions Of A Pastor

What's Up My People,

Today is day 24 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." Today, I want to blog about an issue that is dear to me and that is the issue of pastoring. I believe wholeheartedly that the pastor is a gift from God to the local church. Jeremiah 3, prophesies that God will give us pastors after his own heart who will lead the flock of God with knowledge and understanding. Pastoring is something that I have always wanted to do. It is what I bleed and think about all day, every day. It is truly a calling that is not for everyone. A person must know that God has called him/her to pastor before he/shes takes on the responsibility of being a pastor. With all the stress and pressure that comes with pastoring, a person must be called or the pressure of pastoring will crush them. Therefore, with all the pressure that comes with pastoring, itself, it is double trouble when you have outside issues that add to the stress of pastoring. The reality is that this is the case with most pastors.

Recently, I had the privilege of sharing my story of pastoring and transitioning from a denominational church to an non-denominational church. Pastor R. A. Vernon gave me the privilege to join him on his national television broadcast and share my story of how I made a "faith move" and became the pastor of FMC. After appearing on the broadcast many pastors have reached out to me nationwide expressing how they can relate to my situation. As a pastor, they feel that they are not empowered to pastor or lead their congregation as God gives them instruction and vision. Many pastors stress how they suffer from depression and anxiety because they are in a system that is not conducive to doing kingdom ministry. Many shared how they felt like just giving up and walking away from ministry all together. As I stated earlier, pastoring itself is difficult but it is ten times more difficult when you are part of a system that will not allow you to follow God's leading.

So tonight as a pastor, I come encouraging believers of all races, denomination, and cultures, to please pray and support your pastor. Your pastor is crucially important to you getting to where God wants you to be. God has put your Pastor in your life to help you get to where HE (God) is trying to take you. So, here are 5 quick things you can do to help your pastor's assignment much easier:

1. Commitment to pray for your pastor daily.

(No, for real though, at least once a day stop what you are doing and pray for your pastor's strength, family, integrity, and peace of mind)

2. Let your pastor know you support him by "word and deed."

(Most pastors know who are their genuine supporters and who are not. Don't assume your pastor knows you support him or her. Let them know)

3. If you don't understand or agree with your pastor, don't talk/gossip about him/her.

(First pray and ask God for clarity. Secondly, approach your pastor privately and ask him/her to explain what they are thinking or their process. Communication can clear so many things up)

4. Don't let anyone put their mouth on your pastor.

(If people feel comfortable coming to you talking about your pastor, it is not a compliment. Trust me, it's an insult)

5. Do something nice for your pastor.

(If your pastor has truly helped you in any way, do something nice for him/ her and their family. It does not always have to be monetary, but a letter, card, food, cake, gift card, hug, etc. Pastors love those things and it is a great encouragement for them.)

I absolutely love being a pastor and I thank God daily for him giving me a second chance to pastor a church I absolutely love...Faith Movers!!! I love God, my family, and I am crazy about my church. Remember pastoring is not easy, but if you do your part you can make it a little easier for your pastor. That's all folks. I am Moses Herring and I approved this message!

Today is day 23 of "30 days of blogging." We only have seven more blogs, one more week. Wow! How time flys when you are having fun. I am truly excited about the wonderful things that have been happpening. Today, I was reflecting on how we started this blogging journey not too long ago and how so many wonderful things have occurred since we started blogging. We begin our new series, we unveiled our website, and many other things. My, how God is good.

However, more importantly, it seems that God is really stretching and challenging all of us to reach a little higher. It is always interesting how and when God stretches us. Sometimes, it can be a painful process, but a needed process. We can never get to the next level in life until we first conquer our current level. That requires some stretching. Any time an athelete gets ready to participate in a sport, that athelete always stretches. Stretching merely is a warm-up process to loosen the muscles and prepare them to work. Sometimes God stretches us a tool of prepartion for the upcoming events in our lives. Remember the ceiling of this level is merely the floor of the next. We must always allow ourselves to be stretched in order to be prepared for our next level.

Remember, God is ALWAYS good and ALWAYS knows what he is doing, even when he is stretching you. So let's all loosen up and let God stretch us! Well, that's all for now!

What's Up My People,

Today is day 21 of "30 Days of Blogging With Moses." This Sunday was an awesome day. First, our website is up and running, http://www.faithmovers.org/ . The spirit of the Lord was in the house at Faith Movers Church. I am always amazed at how God is moving in the life of FMC. God is good. Today in service we were blessed by a special guest who played the saxophone and boy did he play. He truly allowed the Lord to use him and he set the stage for God's Word to be ministered.

We are still in our current preaching series, "Who's The Boss: Kingdom Authority". Today, I preached a message entitled, "Say My Name, Say My Name". Man, did God move in a spectacular way! The sermon ended with a skit where I interviewed the devil (shout out to my man, Joshua Reed). It was truly a blessing. I pray that people left understanding the power that is in the name of Jesus. That's a word for somebody. Whatever you need, the name of Jesus can supply it for you (John 14:12-14). So whatever you do keep on speaking the name of Jesus Christ.

Then finally tonight, I had an opportunity to be on The Word Network with Pastor R.A. Vernon. It was truly a joy to be able to share my story and what God is doing in my life. I was very nervous, but I hope people received it and heard my heart. We are in a new season and it is time out for church games. We must be about the kingdom of God. Well what a day! What's Up My People,

Today is the 19th day of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." Once again today is TGIF. It is the weekend baby!!! Today was a very busy day for me. I stayed at the office all day working on some foundational things for the church. Building a ministry from scratch is not an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Especially, early on, because foundation is crucial for the survival of anything that plans to stand. If the foundation is bad, then that which is built upon the foundation will be bad. The same is true as it relates to life, business, and even ministry. Therefore, I am working hard, along with dedicated people to ensure that the ministry of FMC is built on a strong foundation.

As I was working hard today, I heard the voice of God speaking to me saying, "Son do not despise the day of small beginnings." The statement really touched me because I realized that the work I am putting in today will help change so many peoples lives tomorrow. Oftentimes, people do not realize the significance of starting off. Too many people want to get to the finish line that they fail to get there because they started off wrong. It has been said, and it is so true, that life is not about the destination it is about the journey. Wow! I believe that is a word for somebody. Don't miss the blessing of your current season trying to rush and get to your next season. There are some crucial things you must learn in this season that will empower you and better you for your next season. However, if you do not appreciate your current season and learn what you need to learn from it, you will be ineffective in your next season.

That's what God showed me today. That I cannot rush this season of my life and ministry, because there are some key things I must learn from it, so that I will be better and more effective in my next season. So, no matter how small the start is of your current season or no matter how insignificant you may think your current season is. God is not a God that waste time. If HE has you in this season, it is for a reason. So do not despise the day of small beginnings. Because remember, what Goo has in front of you is always greater than what's behind you. Be wise in this season and you will prosper in your next one. Keep the faith and stay strong

What's Up My People,

Today is day 18 of "30 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses." Tonight, I want to blog about something that is very important to our nation and country. I want to take time tonight, to remember something that happened close to ten years ago. On September 11, 2001, our country was attacked in the great city of New York. Ten years ago terrorist attacked the New York Trade Centers and changed our nation forever. On that day, America lost its sense of innocence and its sense of freedom. Our nation has not been the same sense that horrible day ten years ago. There is so much to be learned from the horrific event of 9/11. One thing that we all learned for sure is how precious life is.

I know for a fact that the morning of 9/11, no one knew that they would be apart of the most terrifying attack on America since Pearl Harbor. 9/11 taught us all that we never know what the future holds. Therefore, we need to live life to the fullest everyday. We must learn how to appreciate all that life has to offer and value and appreciate the people in our lives that we love the most. More importantly, if we are not right with God, we cannot put it off. We must get right with HIM as soon as possible, because tomorrow is not promise to any of us.

Finally, I think 9/11 teaches us that no matter how hateful people are, we must not get on their level and match hate for hate. The only way to remove hate is by drowning it with love. We cannot be hateful to the people who did that cowardless act on 9/11, but we must forgive them and pray for them. We have to learn from our enemies foolishness and do the right thing even when everyone around us is in love with doing the wrong thing. I am sincerely praying for all the families and people effected by 9/11. I can only imagine the pain and hurt the families of the victims are going through. Therefore, as kingdom citizens, we must pray for them and ask God to strengthen them in their time of need.

We shall never forget the morning of September 11, 2001. Yet and still, we will trust in the God of all creation to keep us, protect us, sustain us, and cover us. So, no matter what you are doing this Sunday, 9/11/2011, take time to pause and remember what happen tens years ago. Continue to pray that God blesses all the Earth.

What's Up My people,

Today is day 17 of "Blogging With Pastor Moses." As I blog tonight on this Wednesday, I have just finished Believer's Night tonight and man, the Lord blessed us tonight at FMC. We are currently in a new series, "Who's The Boss: Kingdom Authority." Tonight we ministered about the kingdom. There is nothing more powerful than teaching people about the kingdom of God. People need to know that as believer's we are a part of God's kingdom and we do not have to be bound by the things and the system of the world. Christ has redeemed us from sin and the curse of the world's system. At FMC we are determined to discover who we are and walk into our kingdom authority. I can't wait until Sunday! It is going to be an awesome move of God. I would not miss it for anything.

Well, tomorrow starts off the NFL season and I am excited about that. I love football and I am excited about this upcoming year. I am slowly becoming a Bears fan, but I really enjoy watching my boy, Michael Vick. I just love his style of play and I really hope he can reach the Super Bowl. It would be a great story, especially to those who have fallen from grace. Michael Vick teaches us that no matter how far you fall, you can recover and even be better than you were before you fell. I think there is a word in that; maybe that's just the preacher in me. However, I am ready for the NFL season. During this time I am a little more intense than usual... I will walk around the house tackling my wife and then tackling my kids, not softly, mind you, but full speed. I know it's crazy but football bring out the beast in me..lol.

Well I have worked hard today and I am extremely tired. I have a big day tomorrow, so I need to get some rest. So, I wish all a good night and we will talk tomorrow. Remember, God created you to rule, so manifest God's kingdom on the earth. We holla!

President Obama And Race

What's Up My People,

Today is day 16 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses". Time is going by so fast. It seems like yesterday, I was doing day 1 of blogging with Pastor Moses and now it is day 16. This has truly been an enjoyable experience for me. Today, I want to talk politics. I was reading an article today concerning our current President, Barack Obama. While reading the article I begin to question was president Obama being criticized unjustly. I felt the article seemed to be judging and criticizing President Obama unfairly. It appeared that the article was upset with President Obama for more personal reasons than professional reason.

During the last couple of years, I have been very interested in politics. I must admit, I am huge Barack Obama fan. I admire his story and what he has been able to accomplish as an African-American male in America. It appears that recently that President Obama has been up under a lot of criticism based on his performance as President of the United States. Some feel that his criticism is justified whereas many especially in the African-American community feel that the criticism of President Obama is based on race. Some feel that because President Obama is an African-American many people in America do not like him for that reason. It raises the question: Do you feel that President Obama is being criticised unjustly?

Now, I can't say for sure the answer to that question, but this is what I do know. I do know that racism is something that is still a serious problem in America and especially in American politics. There are some people who do judge President Obama not by performance but by race. Yes, the office of the President is a job that should be often critiqued and evaluated. All evaluation and analysis must be honest and based on performance and not any other factors. President Obama has done some great things while in office at the same time he has done somethings that should be evaluated and analyzed to ensure he is doing the things he said and do what is best for the country. It is my prayer that our president will be treated as all other previous presidents, and not judged based on his skin color alone. So whether you like President Obama or not, don't allow personal issues to cause you to discriminate against him. The words of Dr. King is still a prayer for all, "..that people will be judged based on the content of their character and not the color of their skin."

What's Up My People,

Today is day 15 of "30 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses." We are at the halfway point in this journey and it is my prayer that someone has been enlightened or helped by this journey. I wanted to encourage somebody tonight that the best is yet to come. I truly feel that in my spirit. Today as I was resting and mediating, I felt in my spirit that so many kings and queens are about to stand up and take their rightful place. I know that we are living in hard times and so many people have been trying to keep the faith, but, the reality is they have become weary. I wanted to encourage somebody tonight that no matter how long you've been waiting and how bad your situation is, you have to know that what's in front of you is greater than what's behind you. For so many people all you have to do is just keep on moving forward. If you just keep pushing forward you are going to walk into the best season of your life. You have been faithful, you have been holy, you have been obedient; now it is your time to receive your harvest!

I had to share that tonight with someone. I don't know who it is for but I know it was for somebody. I want you to get ready to walk in what God has for you next. I speak over your life. Created To Rule

What's up my people,

Today is day 14 of "30 days of blogging with Pastor Moses." Today was Sunday and what a full day it was. We started off getting up early this morning, preparing for a great day in the Lord. Before I went to church, I made a stop at one our members church who opened a new salon. I prayed and annoited the facility. The best way I could describe how I felt was a proud parent. To here the owners talk about how they busted a faith and trusted God in order to start thier own business, it just made me so proud. It reminded me that's why I do what I do and do it so hard, so that people will be encouraged to bust a move. So I give a shot out to Craig and Tamasha for opening their new business and, to all my peeps, keep busting a move.

Service today was the bomb! We did a couple of things a little different. As we served communion, we showed a brief clip of the Passion of Jesus Christ. If you could imagine being served the body and blood of Jesus Christ and at the same time visually seeing Jesus Christ being crucified on the cross, man, it is an awesome experience! During Communion, people were crying, shouting, and just reflecting on the sacrifice of Christ. I have to agree with what many people told me, I have never experienced a communion service that powerful before. I thank God for the blood (....I feel something bubbling...)! That's communion FMC style.

Today at church, we began our new preaching series, "Who's the Boss? Kingdom Authority" It is my hope and prayer that people were edified by the word. We started off this series by laying the foundation and by making this one point: that we, as believers, were created to rule the earth. There is nothing in life that should be ruling us. We should be ruling it. I truly enjoyed preaching this word and I also enjoyed today, bringing my pulpit down to the bottom level floor to make sure this word connected to the people. I am believing God that when this series is over, that people will know that God has given them authority to be the boss and to rule and reign in every area of their lives. Man, I can't wait until Wednesday to continue this series. It's going to be epic!

As I got home today, my wife was playing on Youtube and she ran up on this song. She told me, "Baby, this song totally encompasses everything you preached today." So I want to leave it with you tonite. Know that you were created to rule, so Rule Ruler Rule! Well its time for me to call it a night. Everyone in my house is sleep but me. It's my turn now. Who's the Boss? Kingdom Authority

What's up my People,

Today is day 13 of "30 days of blogging with Pastor Moses." Wow! I am absolutely excited about tomorrow. I am excited for two reasons. First, I am excited because we will partake in Holy Communion for the third time. I am always excited about taking communion because it reminds us of the amazing sacrifice that our Lord, Jesus Christ, made for us. What a blessing. Jesus died for my sins, your sins, our sins. He took our punishment. Every time I even think about it, it just brings tears to my eyes.

Secondly, I am excited because on tomorrow we begin our new series "Who's the Boss? Kingdom Authority." The reason I am excited is because during this series we will explore the Kingdom of God and the authority we have as followers of Christ. God has uniquely designed man to have authority on earth. We will explore what exactly that means and discover and examine: "Who's the boss?" and why. Man, I'm telling you, we are going to have a high time in the Lord. I just can't wait to really dive deep into things of God. Hope you are ready too. As always, it is my prayer that people are tremendously helped during this series. I can't wait to see you tomorrow! What's Up My People,

Today is day 12 of "Blogging with Pastor Moses". Happy T.G.I.F. to everyone. It's the weekend!!! I know many people may be traveling for Labor day Weekend and enjoying family. So, it is my prayer that everyone is safe and have a good clean time. I am really enjoying blogging. It is very therapeutic for me, I love expressing my thoughts and ideas. I hope people are at least enjoying reading them. This is also good for me because it helps me hone in on my writing skills. I pray that one day soon I will be able to write a book, so this helps me get in the flow and in the mood of writing. Today, I want to start Part I of a couple of blogs on "The State of The Church".

As I have said before, the church is the greatest institution that God has created and ordained on the earth. Not only is it the greatest but it is also the most powerful institution on earth. The church is powerful because no where else can you go and literally have complete life change within such a short amount of time. It is more powerful than the government, more powerful than stock market, or anything else we can think of. This is why it is so important that as leaders of the church we must make sure we are doing our best to lead and give vision to the most precious thing that God has on the earth: CHURCH.

God has given leaders of the church a major responsibility. That responsibility, among other things, is to cast vision to the people, lead them to Christ, and care for them. This is a major responsiblity and there is no room for error. An error could literally mean the difference between heaven or hell for someone. What an amazingly awesome ability to be able to communicate the Word of God, but at the same time, it is a serious task and vital to the survival of the church and people of God. Therefore, we must always keep pastors and church leaders lifted and covered in prayer. They carry a major responsibility: to help be good stewards of the church. God has entrusted his precious church to leaders and they are responsible, under the guidance of God and the power of the Holy Spirit to see that the church is always following the leading of God. Wow! What a task! Well, my people, that's it for tonight. I am off to sleep.

What's Up My People,

Today is September 1, 2011. It is the first of a new month. We are now entering the home stretch of this year. There are only four months left in 2011. My, how 2011 has gone so fast. So, as I reflect on the fact that there is just a short amount of time left in 2011, I encourage you to make the best of the rest of this year. There are some resolutions you made in the beginning of the year (you said you were going to loss weight, read your Bible more, etc.). Whatever you resolved to do at the beginning of the year, there is still time to accomplish that goal.

Many times when a new year begins we are so enthused and pumped up to reach our goal, but somewhere along the way (like within the first month) we lose our zeal and off the wagon we fall. Today, I want to encourage you to get up, dust yourself off, pick up your goals, and begin working on them again. You got four more months to reach your goal. If it was weight loss, you can still do it. Get you a gym membership, or a good DVD and go to work. If your desire was to grow in the Word by devoting more time to your Bible reading time, you can begin that now (Literally, stop reading the blog and pick up your Word!). Just because you gave up on your goal and have not been working on it, does not mean you can't pick it back up and get going. So the word for someone tonight is simply this, "Do whatever you got to do and get going!"

Saying Goodbye and Hello At The Same Time

What's Up My People,

Today is day 10 of "30 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses". How has it been so far? We'll I have had a ball and I hope you have enjoyed this time of fellowship. I have just finished preaching my last sermon of "The Gospel of Reality TV". This is a series that I have personally enjoyed teaching and preaching. I feel almost sad to say goodbye. However, I am extremely excited about the preaching series for September entitled, "Who's The Boss: Kingdom Authority. So, today I had to say goodbye and hello at the same time. Doing this me made think about how sometimes in life we have to be able to say goodbye to something and at the same time say hello to something else.

Now, the challenge is, not getting so caught up in saying goodbye that you miss the blessing of hello. Too many people struggle so much with saying goodbye to things that they need to let go that they miss their new season of hello. When it's time to say goodbye to something or someone, just say goodbye. Because if God tells you to say goodbye to something, it means that he has a hello around the corner. You can't say hello to your new relationship until you say goodbye to your old. You can't say hello to your new job until you said goodbye to your old one. Let me give you Bible, Paul said, "I'm forgetting those things which are behind me and reaching forth for the things in front of me." So whatever it is in your life or whoever it is in your life you need to say goodbye to, go ahead and do it, because I promise you as soon as you say goodbye today, you will be saying hello tomorrow. If you are really blessed sometimes God will allow you to say goodbye and hello at the same time. If I was preaching, I would whoop right here (lol) and say that's what Jesus did on Calvary, he said goodbye to death and sin and said hello to life eternal and he did it at the same time. Wow!!!

We'll goodbye "The Gospel of Reality TV" and hello "Who's The Boss?" I am ready for what God has next and I know this series will be life changing. We'll it has been a long night, it's time for me to say goodbye and I will say hello to you tomorrow (lol). Remember don't be afraid to say goodbye because God has your hello waiting for you. Peace.

What's Up My People,

Today is day 9 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." This has been a very eventful day. Tuesdays are always busy for me, especially with it being the first work day for me. However, I am extremely excited about what God is doing in my life and the life of the people in my life. I can't wait until tomorrow, because tomorrow is Believer's Night. Tomorrow I will be preaching the last sermon of the series "The Gospel of Reality TV". The sermon on tomorrow will be called Fear Factor: Living With No Fear. I believe with all my heart that this message will be a blessing to those who want to follow God and bust a faith move, but fear is crippling them from going forward. Tomorrow we will do all possible to kill and destroy the spirit of fear. I can't wait!!!!

I am also excited about FMC new preaching series starting on Sunday, entitled, "WHO'S THE BOSS: KINGDOM AUTHORITY". This series is going to be powerful and life changing. We will be talking about how God has created us to operate in his kingdom with kingdom authority. My prayer is that after this series that people will realize who they are and the authority and power they possess as a believer of Jesus Christ. Some things in life that we endure or go through we don't have to go through them or allow them to effect us the way they do. When we discover the kingdom and our authority, we understand that we are the head and not the tail and above and not beneath. This series is sure to be a blessings to all. Remember, the devil is not the boss, your supervisor is no the boss, your haters are not the boss, but YOU are the boss because you have kingdom authority.

Get Some Rest!!!!

What's Up My People,

Today is day 8 of "Blogging with Pastor Moses". Mondays are always good days for me. I have tried to proclaim Mondays as rest and family day. Meaning on Mondays, I try to rest and spend significant time with my family. Rest is a very important part of life. God did not create us to work seven days a week. Did you not know that in the Pentateuch, God required Israel to work six days but on the seventh day it was anointed the day of rest. Israel was commanded not to work, but rest. Furthermore, even God understood the seriousness and significance of rest. When God created the earth in six days, the Bible says on the seventh day he sanctified that day and rested.

Wow, don't tell me, we don't need rest as humans. Catch this, if God chose to rest you know that you and I need to learn and "choose" to rest. Understand, rest is a choice. Oh yes, it is possible to be a work-aholic and work everyday, seven days a week and never rest and never regroup. You can choose to do that, but know that choices have consequences (if I was preaching, I'd ask you to touch your neighbor and tell them you need some rest). Our bodies was not designed to work seven days a week. God created us to only work six days, and when we push our bodies beyond God's original intent, our bodies will begin to breakdown. Studies show that stress and being overworked make people at high risk for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and etc. What's your point Pastor Moses, ok I will tell you, don't over do it, learn to get some rest.

One of my favorites scriptures in the Bible is found in II Samuel 7:1, "After the king was settled in his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him." Notice God gave David rest from all his enemies. We serve a God who wants us to learn how to rest in Him. Some of us are not overworked physically but emotionally and mentally. This can be just as bad as being physically overworked. Understand, that God seeks to give us rest in every area of our lives: body, mind, spirit, and soul. I talk to too many people weekly who are spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally over stressed and overworked. Learn how to do what Peter said do, "cast all your cares upon the Lord." When you do that, God will give you a supernatural rest that will cause you to have peace in the midst of your stress, storms, and drama.

I made a personal promise to my wife earlier this year that I would take one day out of the week and do nothing but rest and spend time with the family. I encourage everyone else to do the same. No matter how busy you are carve out one day out of the week and do nothing but rest and spend time with the people you love. If you can't find one day to rest then you are truly too busy and that is dangerous. So in closing, I speak rest over you and on your life. Not that artificial rest that comes from a false since of security that the world gives. But, I speak the rest of the Holy Spirit to come upon you and overtake you. I pray that God's rest would rejuvenate you, replenish you, and refuel you, so you can continue to do what God has called you to do. Well I have a couple more hours of rest, so I got to run and watch some "Veggie Tales" with the family. See you later. What's Up My People,

Today is Day 7 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses". This Sunday was a great day! God blessed us at Faith Movers in a special way. We continued our series "The Gospel of Reality TV," by preaching sermon 7 of the series entitled, Swamp People: How To Stay Away From People Who live In The Swamps. It is my prayer that people were helped and blessed by the message. I truly enjoyed ministering the message because so many people are not getting to the next level because of the dead, dangerous and delimiting company they keep. As I stated in the message, "The company you keep will determine how far you will reach." You can only go as far as the people who are around are pushing you to go. It is so important that in this season of your life you remove everything out of your life that is dead: relationships, jobs, friends, and watch this, even churches. Always remember that only living things grow, so leave the swamp people along and live the life that God has for you.

We'll after a great service today, God allowed FMC to be a blessing to FMC. We were able as a church, to give to the members free gas cards and free grocery cards in order to be a blessing to those who needed just a little help. It is always a blessing to be a blessing to someone else. As the church, we should be concerned about helping those who cannot help themselves both spiritually and existentially. In other words, we should seek to help those on the inside and the outside. As I tell my members, as a church that's what we do outreach, blessings other as God blesses us. The crazy thing was that after we T.O.S.S. (that is our acronym for giving: Tithes Offering Seed Sowing) as a church, one member came up to me and stated God had been good to her and she was lead and inspired to T.O.S.S. a $100 check to someone. Unbelievable! I tell you, TOSSing is contagious.

Now after a busy weekend and a wonderful service. I am so tired. I am due a real good sleep. I'm not talking about that cute sleep, but that wild sleep. You start off in the covers and wake up with no covers, you sleep with your mouth wide open and have saliva everywhere, you snore so loud your neighbors get mad..lol. I'm talking about that kind of sleep. However, when I look at today and even this weekend, it was well worth it and I would not change it for the world. So, whatever you do remember that as you go work in the morning, stay away from the "swampy people" in your life. And, always look for ways to bless others as God continues to bless you. That's how the kingdom works. Well your boy is gone, that's gone to bed. Holla at you soon. Be a faith mover!!!

Headed Back Home

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 6 of “Blogging With Pastor Moses”. I am literally blogging tonight as I am on an airplane headed back home to Chi-town. I am excited about coming back home because, I am coming back with my babies (Hannah and MJ). Lady Herring and I really missed them and we are excited about having the family back together. These last couple of days has been very busy and meaningful. I left real early Friday morning to go to Cleveland. Early this morning I flew back to Chicago, met my wife and together we got on a plane to go to Atlanta. The Atlanta trip was a two fold trip. Number one of course, I had to get my babies. But, secondly a good friend of mine was getting married in Atlanta and I had to be there. It was a beautiful wedding and really made me cherish the whole covenant process of marriage. Now, we are on a plane again headed back to Chicago. It has truly been a busy last couple of days for me. However, I am excited to be headed back to Chi-town and Faith Movers.

We'll tomorrow it's on again, "The Gospel of Reality TV." Tomorrow we are preaching about Swamp People: How To Stay Away From People Who Live In The Swamps. It's going to be wonderful. I can't wait for an exciting and mighty move of God. Now as I head off, I'm thinking about some of the things I learned this week. One was always be flexible and flow with God. Also, I learned that life is about moments, so we should always be ready and prepared for ours. God is good, I'm checking out for tonight. I'll "blog" at you tomorrow. Oh yeah, one more thing I learned this week, the best time to fly with kids, at night. They both are sleep right now! Rest well.

The Interview

What's Up My People,

Today is Day 5 of "30 Days Blogging with Pastor Moses." Tonight, as I write this I am in Cleveland, Ohio. I have just finished a powerful interview with Pastor Vernon and two other emerging and awesome pastors: Pastor Michael Robinson and Pastor Mike McClure Jr. Pastor Vernon interviewed us so that we could share our stories of ministry with the nation and other pastors. Especially pastors to encourage them to go to "The Gathering of The Shepherds" in September in Cleveland. The Gathering is a conference for pastors and church leaders to show them how to do kingdom ministry in the 21st century. I can speak personally of the impact of The Gathering because it helped me so tremendously, especially during my transition to Faith Movers

It was a very exciting experience for me, yet nerve racking at the same time. I have never done anything that I knew would be appearing on national TV. As you may know, Pastor Vernon has a national ministry/church TV broadcast that comes on THE WORD Network on Sundays at 10pm central/11pm eastern. So knowing that the interview we did would be appearing on TV (in about two weeks) really caused me to be extremely nervous. However, I was grateful for the opportunity to share what God has done in my life and if my story or testimony could help any other pastors, then all glory be to God. When I actually heard myself articulate the things that I have been through this year, it really hit me how difficult the whole transition was and the seriousness of the faith move that myself and Lady Herring made. However, more than anything I was extremely excited to share the things that God is doing at FMC.

I truly believe that God has awesome things in store for FMC and I am amazed at the things that God is speaking to me as it relates to the vision for the church. I am already excited about our next outreach project which we will be doing very soon. We have rested from our last one, now it's time for us to go to work again. I thank God daily for the privilege he has given me to pastor a great church like FMC and to serve in his kingdom. It is my prayer that God keeps me holy and humble before him. I want to continue to love my wife and my family, walk in integrity before God and people and be the best pastor I can be. What I learned today is you never know the doors that God has for you ahead. I would have never thought that I would be in Cleveland and interviewing with Pastor Vernon and telling my story to the nation about what God is doing through a two month old church in the south suburbs of Chicago. I'm truly humbled.

Well I have to get ready for bed now. I have an early flight in the morning and I am getting my babies back from Georgia (Praise God!!). Pray for me. Looking forward to Sunday as we continue our series, "The Gospel of Reality TV." Looking forward to sharing with you tomorrow. Until then be blessed.

Flexible and Flowing

What's Up My People,

Today is Thursday, Day 4 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." I have truly been enjoying this time of sharing thus far. What an eventful day. I woke up this morning with one plan and recieved one phone call and totally had to shift my entire day/weekend. There used to be a time when this would throw me off, but I have learned in my life to be totally flexible. Life does not always follow the set pattern that we plan, so we have to learn to flow with God. This brings me to my main point for today: flexibility and flowing with God.

I define flexibility as being able to quickly adjust to a change. This is one thing that is so crucial in any person's walk with God. In my life, God has totally taught me how to be flexible and flow with Him. As soon as I am comfortable and think I have it all figured out, God throws a monkey wrench in my plans and tells me to do something else. I was just telling Faith Movers not to long ago that my wife and I have lived in five different states in the last seven years. We have been following God and making faith moves our entire marriage. Everytime God would speak, we would move. Sometimes we did not quite understand why He was telling us to make a particular move, but we just moved when He spoke. Now, looking at Faith Movers Church, I see why God has told us to be flexible and flow with Him. It was only to bring us to where we are now. I have learned that many times when God asks us to be flexible, flow, and follow Him, it is just Him preparing us for the future. The faith moves in our lives are merely hearing exercises he uses to prepare us for the the bigger picture. There will come a time in all of our lives when God will ask us to make a faith move. Whether big or small, we have to respond to God's call and move however, wherever, and whenever He tells us to move. Can you hear His voice and are you ready to respond? Be a faith mover.....

Tough Love

What's Up My People,

It is 10:28 pm and I am excited about doing Day 3 of "30 Days of Blogging with Pastor Moses". I have just finished Believer's Night and I am dog tired. God was in the house tonight and we praised God for his Tough Love and our blessing that is on the way. It's been a long time since I sweated as much as I did tonight. But every now and then a whooping spirit comes on you and you just have to flow. I'm fresh out of the shower, and getting ready to eat from Cresha's Kitchen (lol). All day today, I have been dealing and mediating on this whole issue of tough love.

As I said tonight, tough love is an expression that is used when someone treats someone harshly and sternly with the intent of helping them in the long term. I honestly believe that God uses tough love in order to help his children not go astray and stay on the right path. Many people in life are afraid to use tough love because they feel that they are being mean or cruel. However, there are times in life that tough love is necessary. For example, sometimes parents must show their children tough love, sometimes friends must show their friends tough love, and sometimes even spouses must show their spouse tough love. What's important to keep in mind is that whenever we show tough love our intent must be like God, to help and not to hurt. Some people need tough love in order for them to get themselves together and get their priorities straight.

When I look over my life, I thank God for the tough love in shown me in my life. I need God's discipline. I use to be afraid of it or hate it, but now I welcome it because it only makes me better! So perhaps there is someone in your life whom you need to show tough love towards. Remember, be spirit led and do not be afraid to love people enough to sometimes discomfort them in order to develop them. Be when it is all said and down it will make them better and you too. For the rest of my life I will thank God for his tough love. Well your boy is tired, I got an early morning tomorrow. We will talk tomorrow, I am tripping on something I want to share with you. What's Up My People,

Today is day 2 of "Blogging with Pastor Moses." I am extremely excited about the things we will share within these next 30 days. Tuesdays are always interesting days for me, it's like the beginning of the work week. Only preachers and barbers/beauticians have Mondays off because their biggest days are the weekends. So, Tuesdays are usually always real busy and also a day of preparation for Wednesday (Believer's Night). Most of this Tuesday was spent at the office meeting with people and getting some things done. Now, I am beginning to look over somethings for tomorrow. I can't wait until tomorrow, Believer's Night, because I know God has given me a "Word" that is sure to be a blessing.

Speaking of preaching, today I want to discuss what I am currently preaching about at FMC. At FMC, we are currently in a preaching series entitled, "The Gospel of Reality TV." In this series, I am taking popular Reality TV shows and their themes and using them as a background to address issues that effect us in our society today. For example, we are doing sermons like, Keeping Up With The Karadashians: The Importance of Being You, Teen Mom: 5 Reasons To Keep Your Virginity, Fear Factor: Living With No Fear, etc. The series came to me one day as I was traveling back from a business meeting in Cleveland. I had been praying about the next preaching series that I could preach at the church. I wanted to preach about something relevant and practical, and something that I knew would reach people that was not from church. One of my goals at FMC is to do all possible, short of sin, to reach lost people. I have a heart for reaching people who don't know Jesus or come to church. And, I believe wholeheartedly, that if the church is serious about reaching lost people, then the church must be willing to do things a little out of the box in order to reach them (lost people). Don't get me wrong, the message of Jesus Christ shall not ever change, but the methods we use to tell people about Jesus must change. We have more tools and resources now to reach lost people and the church has to use as many of those tools/resources possible to reach people for Jesus.

As someone has said, I think today's preacher must be able to take the Bible in one hand and the newspaper/TV guide in the other hand, and preach the gospel to a world that is seemingly disinterested in Jesus. I think that the challenge for every preacher in the 21st century is, as Dr. Joel Gregory said, "Taking the 'wasness' of the Bible and applying it to the 'isness' of today." This is why I felt that this current series, "The Gospel of Reality TV" would be a blessing to people if I followed God's leading and preached it.

Well that's what I did and from what I am hearing people have really been blessed by the series. I try to preach them in a way that is practical yet grounded in biblical principles. This is always a challenge. First and foremost, I want people to get and apply the principles of the Bible and learn how to apply the word in every area of their lives. I guess my favorite sermon of the series has been, Teen Mom: 5 Reasons To Keep Your Virginity (I'm interested to know which one has helped you the most). I like this message because it is a issue that the Bible clearly speaks of, but it is hardly ever preached about in church. And oh, do we have a generation of people who need to hear it. I am sure some people may think, Pastor Moses is crazy or just too real in the pulpit; but silence and not keeping it real, has never helped anybody. I told the Lord a long time of ago, you can trust me with any message. If you say it to me, I will say it to the people. So, I hope this series has been a blessing to people because I have enjoyed preaching it and still am enjoying preaching it. I continue to ask God to speak through me to help his people.

Well my time is up for today. I have to go back to preparation time in the Word. I have to finish taking care of some business, and then the rest of the day is studying in the word. As I prepare for tomorrow, I am also working on the next sermon series, it is going to be powerful. I will tell you about it soon. I am already excited.. Ok, that's it. We will talk tomorrow. 30 DAYS OF BLOGGING WITH PASTOR MOSES: DAY 1

What's Up My People,

Today is day 1 of "30 Days of Blogging With Pastor Moses." I am extremely excited about the intimate moments of honesty and transparency that we will share as we partake in this 30 day journey. Well, let's get this party started right. On day 1, I want to catch everybody up on what's been going on with me. I am finally starting to be able to lift my head out of the water. These last couple of months have been "super crazy" for me. Within the last couple of months, I have experienced the most stress I have ever had before and at the same time I have been more excited than I have ever been before. So, let me catch you up on Pastor Moses. I want to break it down into three parts/points (in my preaching@ FMC voice....lol): Family, Faith Movers, and Pop-Culture.

Family

The family is doing well. We have been through a lot this year. We have gone through major transitions but through it all, as my baby Hannah says, "we made it." My wife is a true trooper. She has stood strong through it all and has been nothing but a blessing to me. My babies are constantly growing and it is a joy raising them. Hannah is so smart and MJ is so cool and chilled at all times. I think Hannah has my wife's personality, but looks like me and MJ has my personality, but looks like Cresha. I guess God has a sense of humor. I miss my kids though, they have been in Macon with their grandparents for about a week and half. We will get them back this weekend (can't wait!!!). Through it all, the Herrings are doing good. We are still adjusting and trying to balance life and ministry. We have learned to take it one step at a time.

Faith Movers

Well, what can I say about the greatest church on earth? Faith Movers Church ( I will refer to as FMC) is doing awesome. I am sooooo proud of my church and the people whom I serve. I have not been this happy spiritually in a long time. I absolutely love my church and would not want to do anything else in my life, but pastor the wonderful people of FMC. We have been going strong for a little over two months now. Within two months we are seeing a little over 800 people in worship service. And, the excitement is contagious. Everyone is proud to be a "faith mover" and doing all they can to keep the spiritual momentum flowing.

One of the things I am proudest of is the church's giving spirit. We call it T.O.S.S. (Tithes, Offering, Seed Sowing). It is our goal to be known as the outreach church. Within two months, we have T.O.S.S. 100 school uniforms for students who cannot afford them at the school we have service at each week. Also, at our community wide picnic, FMC T.O.S.S. over 300 school supply bags filled with paper, folders, markers, pencils, pens, etc. for students going back to school. We had families come to be blessed for every race/ethnicity (Black, White, Hispanic, etc.). It was amazing! We have also done some inreach, in this short time we have been able to T.O.S.S. to our members who need help in these tough times. I am proud to be a "faith mover." I could go on and on about what God is doing at FMC! We have a church office space right across the street from the school that we hold service in (already paid for, for a year). We had the best Celebration Service a church could have. Dr. R.A. Vernon came and straight shut the house down..interpretation: it was off the chain. I could go on forever talking about how GOD is blessing FMC. Oh yeah, our current preaching series, "The Gospel of Reality TV", man, God is blessing in a huge way...I'll deal with that tomorrow. As you can see, I love my church and I love the people I serve as pastor. We will always strive for excellence and keep the 3 Hs: We will stay HUMBLE, HOLY, AND HUNGRY. The best is yet to come. FMC rocks!!!

Pop Culture

Well there is so much going on in the world today. I don't know where to start. I am extremely saddened about the death of Dr. Zachery Tims of Orlando. Pastor Zach was a mega church Pastor in Orlando that grew his church from 6 people into 8,000 people within 15 years. As a lover of preachers, I discovered Dr. Zach many years ago and followed his ministry as it grew through the years. He seemed to be a great guy and I know he was a great preacher and pastor. I was totally shocked to hear about his death. He was only 42 years old, at the prime of his life, and died unexpectedly. His death made me think about the pressure and stress that pastors face. I cannot express or articulate what pastors go through. I read one time in a article that one of the most stressful jobs in America is President of the U.S. and secondly the job of Senior Pastors. It made me think about myself and family and the importance of living a balanced life and not allowing stress to get the best of me (and it can some times). I love what I do, but I also want to be healthy and alive for my wife and kids as the years go on. So, Pastor Zach taught me as I strive to build a ministry, make sure I maintain a balanced life and keep the main thing the main thing. Pastor Zach will be missed.

Closing, on a lighter note, the Little League World Series is on ESPN now and I love Little League baseball. I can't wait to see who wins!!! It should be good.

A Sunday of Firsts

What's Up My People,

Let me start my saying that God is good. May I also add, God is faithful! This past Sunday at Faith Movers was a special Sunday. It was truly a Sunday of "firsts". It was the first Sunday in July, it was the first time Faith Movers Choir sung, and it was the first time the church participated in the Lord's Supper (Holy Communion). As I sat back and participated in worship on Sunday, I could not help but think about the goodness and faithfulness of God. Everything was off the chain! The choir was great and communion was so rich & powerful. The presence of the Lord was definitely in the house as always.

One of the things I have been working on in my personal life is trying to appreciate what God is doing in my life right now. Regardless of how good or bad life is, I have been trying to honor and value the blessing of the present. I truly believe in Romans 8:28, and it has been my goal to try to walk in it. There have been times in my life that I could not fully appreciate what God was doing in my life. The reason being was that I was too concerned with what God had not yet done or what I wanted God to do. But, I have learned through maturity, the importance of enjoying where you are and not trying to focus too much on where you want to go. Although vision and preparation is crucially important to getting to the next level, it is just as important to enjoy what God is doing in your life NOW.

I am glad to say, that I was able to enjoy on Sunday what God is doing in my life now. I really valued the "firsts" that took place at Faith Movers and I truly am looking forward to the seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths, ....well you get my point. Let me encourage everyone to enjoy the "firsts" that God allows you to experience in life. Don't be in such a rush to get to the next level that you don't value your current level. Remember, Jesus said, " If you are faithful over a few things, then I will make you ruler over many things." All I am trying to express is that we should maximize and appreciate this moment before proceeding to the next.

I am excited about not only what God is getting ready to do in the life of Faith Movers Church, but I am thrilled about what God is doing now. It is not just cliche, but it is so true as it relates to FMC, the best is truly yet to come. We have more people to reach for Jesus, more saints to mature, more people to feed, more young people to encourage, and more lives to change. So, I will end with this prayer:

Kind father, I thank you for the "firsts" in my life. Thank you for Faith Movers, and all the "firsts" we experienced on Sunday. Let us never be in too much of a hurry to get to the next level that we don't appreciate our current level. Continue to be with us and bless us as we press forward toward the seconds and thirds that are coming in our life. I love you and thank you. In Jesus name. Amen.

Taking The Limits OFF God

What's Up Family,

I started my sermonic message on Sunday with this question: Could you imagine how wonderful our lives could be if we took the limits off God? Oftentimes, in life we knowingly or unknowingly put limits on God. The Bible says in Psalm 78:41, that the people of Israel limited the Holy God of Israel. Wow!!!! What a statement. In life, it is sometimes so easy to put our human qualities or abilities on God. However, we must understand that we serve a God who is able to do all things. HE cannot be put on our human level, for we have some power, but God has all power. If we want to live our best life, then we must truly learn how to take all the limits off God.

I believe there are so many people today who God has so much more for, and God wants to give them so much more than what they have now. Yet, they have not received all that God has for them because they keep on limiting what God can and cannot do. God is able to do all things!!!! It does not matter how big, strong, or powerful your problem is God is able to give you victory over it. When we trust in God and realize that he is not just a God of enough but HE is a God of more than enough, then we are positioning ourselves to receive God's best. Whatever limits you have been putting on God take them off. God can fix any problem, reconcile any marriage, kill any drama in your life, heal any sickness in your body, and cover any sin in your life. Just take the limits off.

This Word about taking the limits off God hits me personally because Faith Movers is just getting on its feet. God keeps reminding me to take the limits off HIM. I truly believe that God has so many great things ahead for FMC and I have promised myself that I will not limit God in any way. As Paul said in Ephesians 3:20, we serve a God who can do above all we can ask or think. So instead of trying to understand God, I'm just going to flow with God and take all the limits off Him. Live life with no limits. Be a faith mover!

Walking Into Something New!!!!

What's up my people!

Wow! I want to first thank God for His faithfulness and goodness toward His people. What a great time we had in the Lord at our inaugural service at Faith Movers Church! It has been said that "the spirit of expectancy is the breeding ground for a great move of God." Well that is exactly what happened at FMC. The atmosphere was satuarated with so much love, excitement, and there was a sense of expectation in the air before the service even begin.

Then once the service began, the praise team came forth and ushered us into the very presence of God. Everyone worshipped the Lord in the spirit of liberty and freedom. The atmosphere was electric! Then the Lord allowed me to deliver a Word that encouraged the people of God. We truly thank God for allowing us to walk into something new. We just had a wonderful time. The amazing love and support was overwhelming for my wife and I. We just thank each person, and each Faith Mover who decided to unite with us and begin the journey that God has given us.

At Faith Movers, we look forward to doing big things for Jesus! This is just the beginning. As we continue to be led by the Spirit, we will walk into the destiny that God has for us. We have a lot of work to do: we have many people to lead to Christ, we have many ministries to establish and we have many people to help get to the next level in life. Just like in the sermon today, we discovered we have a legacy to establish for the kingdom of God in the greater Chicago area. We look forward to making an impact on the south suburbs and the world! Once again I want to thank everyone for your love and support. Thank God for all the new Faith Movers who will do great things for God and His kingdom. We give all glory to God for what HE is doing. Where Do We Go From Here?

Blessings My people,

I want to thank everyone for your prayers and support during this tough and difficult time of transition. Sis. Herring and I love you and are praying for you all as well. Decisions like these are never easy. But, as I always teach and encourage people, you have to follow God's voice and leading at all times, knowing that God has a plan for your life (Romans 8:14). I thank God that HE has called my wife and I to this Chicago area. We look forward to remaining here in the south suburbs and doing ministry for the glory of God.

On Sunday, June 12, 2011, I will be preaching an encouraging Word to help us during this time of transition and I also will be sharing what God has for me next as it relates to ministry in the south suburbs of Chicago. Getting To Know Your Pastor

What's Up My Friends,

One of the most important relationships that you will ever be engaged in is the one you have with your spiritual leader or pastor. We live in a day when many people may not have the privilege to know their pastor on a personal level. One of the hardest things to do as a pastor is to try to be everything to everybody. However, a true shepherd has a deep love for all those whom God has entrusted him or her with. So, I thought it would be good to let my sheep know some things about me that they might not have known. Last Week of the Empowerment Conference

What's Up My People,

We have made it to the last week of the EC at CBCG. It has been an awesome conference thus far and the last week of the conference promises to be great also. On last Thursday, Bishop Ulmer blessed the house. I am looking forward to our special guest tomorrow, Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. God has truly been blessing the ministry of Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. over the past couple of years. His church recently moved into a new sanctuary and are doing great ministry in the greater Atlanta area. I am excited about him coming and I know that he will have a Word for the house.

I want to thank everyone for a great empowerment conference thus far. As I approach this last night, I am believing that the best is yet to come. I know and believe that God is going to move in an awesome way. Every night of the conference has been phenomenal and this last week is going to be phenomenal also. Come with your cup ready to be filled and watch God give you a blessing that overflows! Peace.

Week 3 of The Empowerment Conference

What's Up My Friends,

Well what can I say about week 3 of the EC: "It was the bomb!" On last night, we begin week 3 of our great EC at CBCG. Let me just say that this conference has been a blessing all month long. God has really been moving by his power at this conference and many people have been blessed. Once again the atmosphere was high as we knew that Bishop Kenneth Ulmer would come and share with us a on-time "Word" from God. And, that is exactly what happen last night at the conference.

Now, if you have never heard Bishop Ulmer preach before, you really need to. Bishop Ulmer is truly a gifted preacher. He handles the Word with so much eloquence, passion, and style that you cannot help but be engaged by his preaching. The Bishop preached a message from a "familiar text" (he made a joke about this at the beginning of the sermon lol) the 23rd Psalm. His message was entitled, "A Strange Place To Get Bless." He preach about the importance of the relationship between The Shepherd and The Sheep. He explained how the sheep was lead to the valley of the shadow of death by the shepherd. However, it was the shepherd who blessed the sheep not when the sheep left the valley, not before the sheep got to the valley, but he blessed the sheep while he was in the valley. The message was truly an encouragement that God can bless us in the midst of a valley situation. Then at the end, Bishop brought the message home and lead us into a powerful flow of worship.

It was truly a blessed time in the Lord. Many people left uplifted and empowered by the worship and the message. It was indeed a blessing for me too. I have enjoyed Bishop Ulmer's ministry for years. Then to have him come and preach at a church that I pastor was a honor. Bishop Ulmer is a prince of preachers and he is admired by many across the world. He has such an aura about him that you know when talking with him you are talking to someone who God has his hands on. In spending time talking with him, I was really blessed by his spirit and his strong words of encouragement. I was "empowered" by the whole night and I believe the church was too.

Well, now we are down to the last week of the EC. It has truly been a blessing thus far. Next week I believe we will will end the conference with a bang. Our guest preacher will be Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. of Atlanta, GA. I know he will have a "Word" that will encourage our souls. I can't wait! Remember, it does not matter how low your valley is, we have a God who sits high and looks low. Stay strong and be blessed!

To Whoop or Not To Whoop That Is The Question?

What's Up My People,

All day long people have been asking me about an recent article posted on http://www.cnn.com/ (Preacher"whoops" it up in pulpit) as it relates to "whooping" in the black church." Some may ask, "What is whooping?" Throughout my life I have heard many different definitions. Some say "whooping is putting emphasis on the end of a sermon." Some say, "whooping is the celebration part of a black preacher's sermon." While others say, "whooping is a recap of the sermon in an entertaining way." Yet, there are still many more definitions I have heard throughout the years as it relates to the masterful art of whooping. An official definition of whooping is, a loud cry of exultation or excitement. In the article on CNN, it profiled Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. of Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church of Atlanta, GA. Now after the article on CNN, the whole world will have a basic understanding of what whooping is all about.

First, let me say that I think Pastor E. Dewey Smith Jr. did a wonderful job of explaining what whooping is all about. Those of us who have been raised in the African-American church, have seen, many of times, a preacher who whoops at the end of his message. Growing up, I was a whooping fan. When I heard preachers preach, I could not wait to the end of their message to hear them "whoop." If they didn't whoop, I felt like they really didn't preach hard or took a day off. I use to always listen to some of the preaching legends' sermons on tape like: Pastors Jasper Williams, C.L. Franklin, Donald Parsons, etc. I was in love with the way they dropped their voices at the end of the sermon, and started breathing heavy. Then they would start talking real slow, then their voice would turn toward a singing-talking modulation. Towards the very end they would scream and scream and ask you "to shout yeah, yeah, yeah, yeeeeeeah!!!" That was it. I use to think I couldn't listen to preaching unless a preacher whooped. However, as I got older and begin to really learn the "Word" and get more serious about my walk with God and preaching, I started to listen to preaching for the message rather than the whoop. Don't get me wrong, I stilled liked the whoop but it was not what I was listening for.

Over the past couple of decades in Christendom there has been this big debate over whooping. With the rise of "non-whoopers" who consider themselves more teachers of the Word, many people have begun to look down on whooping. With the rise of the mega church and many successful pastors who don't whoop (some of which are sometimes critical of those preachers who whoop), many parishioners don't like to be associated with whooping preachers. Some say whooping is just pure entertainment. The preacher is just putting on a show for the people and stirring up their emotions. While others feel that whooping is an appreciation of African-American culture and should be accompanied by a powerful "meaty" message. So whose right,? Should preachers whoop or not?

Well, one thing I love about God is that God is a God of variety. This is why we are called the Body of Christ. We all can't be arms because the body needs legs and we all can't be legs because the body needs feet. You have to know who you are and be true to yourself. Is whooping wrong? Absolutely not!! Is whooping a show? It can be, but most of the times it is an authentic expression of someone's joy and excitement about the message they are preaching. Is whooping spiritual? It depends on whose doing it. I know some preachers that do whoop to impress, but most preachers I know whoop because it is just their style and way of expressing their excitement about the message their preaching. I think it is so important that we as the believers respect other peoples' differences. Whooping is not for everybody and people should not feel bad if it's not for them; that's why we have non-whooping preachers and churches. At the same time non-whooping preachers should respect whoopers and whoopers should respect non-whooping preachers. It's all about respecting each others differences.

Whooping, itself, is not bad. However, it can be bad when it is not done correctly. When I say "correctly," I don't mean by sound. I mean by substance. As Pastor Smith quoted in the article, " A preacher has to earn the right to whoop." Whooping should always be done AFTER a preacher has clearly explained the Word of God in a relevant way and the people have a good spiritual understanding of what has been preached. Just getting up whooping without a solid Word from God is ignorant and out of order! God's people deserve more. It is the Word that gives life and strengthens us. It is the Word that builds strong faith, and it is the preached Word that saves souls, not just getting up whooping. Whooping is just the icing on the cake not the main meal. Just like if a person only eats icing all the time, that person will not properly grow or function correctly. The same can be said about whooping with no real susbustative preaching. It is impossible to grow and develop in God without the Word. All messages and sermons are not whooping sermons and a preacher should never feel he or she has to whoop after every message. Sometimes God just wants the preacher to challenge people and the preacher should sit down, shut up and let God do the rest. A preacher must be spiritually mature enough to know when and when not to whoop.

I am currently ministering a preaching series entitled, "Living By Faith". It has been awesome and God has moved each Sunday. I have not really whooped all month. I have gotten excited. I have even come close but I have not went all the way. I just want to give the people what God gave me. I do not want to be known as a "whooping preacher" but I want people to identify with my preaching because of the message I preach. This month, God has given me messages that are challenging so my assignment is not to excite, but to challenge. There are times when God wants me to excite the people or lift them up, then I do go for it and whoop or at least I try (I am not a gifted whooper but I still do it because I like it). I try to be spiritually mature enough to discern when it is ok and when I need to just teach and challenge.

So to answer the question, it's ok to whoop. It's not a sin. However, one must make sure that when whooping, that first a substantive message has been given that is worth getting excited about. Make sure the people have been edified before the have been excited. I think the article was good and Pastor Smith gave an intelligent and scholarly explanation of what whooping is all about. If nothing else, I believe many people will be educated on the many faces of preaching. Let's respect each others differences and remember "in all your getting, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7)!

Week 2 of The Empowerment Conference

What's Up My Friends,

Today begins week two of the Empowerment Conference at CBCG. I am so excited about week two and I know that the Lord is going to bless in a spectacular way. We got off to a great start on last Thursday and I believe God is going to take us higher on tonight. Once again I can feel a spirit of expectancy in the air. It has been said that "the atmosphere of expectancy is the breeding ground for miracles." So I am coming tonight expecting to receive a miracle.

I am also excited about our speaker for week two, Pastor Corey Brooks, the Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Church of Chicago (http://www.nbcchicago.tv/). Pastor Brooks is a great preacher and he is doing a fantastic job as pastor of NBC. The church is only 10 years old and God has moved upon the church in a great way in a short period of time. Not too long ago, the church moved into its new worship facility. The church has a great sanctuary, also houses a fitness center, recording studio, Christian Academy, etc. As you can see, the favor of God is upon NBC. In meeting Pastor Brooks and spending some time with him, I found him to be a humble and very sincere man of God. He loves God and has a love for God's people. Even more importantly, he has a love for God's Word. So, I know God has already given him a word that is going to bless the conference and the entire Body of Christ.

I cannot wait until tonight. It promises to be a spirit filled night. I can sense that the presence of God will be thick in the house and we will hear a "Word" from the Lord. So if you are in near the Glenwood area or the greater Chicago area you need to be in the house tonight, because it's going down. I will do a recap of the service on the blog after tonight. The 1st Week of The Empowerment Conference

What's My People,

What can I say to describe week one of the EC. Just one word: WOW!!!! The first week of the conference was so uplifting and inspiring. The Lord just moved in a special and supernatural way. The atmosphere was great and so many people showed with a spirit of expectation. You could just feel it in the atmosphere. The service started at 7:30pm but people were coming early with such a spirit of expectancy, waiting for God to gives us something we could stand on. Well, let me say that we got just what we wanted from God. As I walked in the service I was surprised to see the number of people that were present. Everyone seemed happy to be there and no one seemed forced. The choir stand was packed and singing the praises of God to get the house ready for the Word.

Then when it was time for the Word, the Lord really showed up through Pastor Jeffrey Johnson. Pastor Johnson preached a great Word entitled, Waiting For Superman, from Judges 3: 12-30. He talked about how God used a man name Ehud to deliver the people of Israel out of bondage and defeat. He expounded on how Ehud was different. He was a left-handed man in a right-handed world (oh man, Pastor Johnson worked this point). Yet God used Ehud and the people of Israel to defeat the King and the people of Moab and get to a place of freedom. Pastor Johnson encouraged us not to let what makes us different hinder us from making a difference. The message was just simply off the chain. Everyone in the house received the message and I know so many people was helped. I was even more amazed at how he ended his message with an illustration about "faith". It was unique because I am currently preaching a new sermon series on Sundays entitled "Living By Faith". It was evident hat God was in the place!

All roads lead to Calvary again on Thursday as we enter into week 2 of the EC. Pastor Corey Brooks and the New Beginnings Church will be our guest. I know it's going to be a great time of praise and fellowship with God. I am just amazed at how God is moving in the lives of the people who are connected to me in this season. I just know God is going to bless us and take us all to the next level. Everyday I am expecting my miracle and believing God's for yours. Week 1 of the EC was the bomb, week 2 promises to be even better!!! See you there.

Empowerment Conference Time!!!

What's Up My Friends,

I'm very excited about today because it kicks off the Empowerment Conference at CBCG. Every Thursday in the month of October great preachers from all over the country will preach and teach the Word of God. I feel that this year's conference is very important because we all need times of refreshing in life. We all need to be empowered so that we can continue to be strong in the things of God. This year's meeting is sure to be a time of edification and equipping. We will start off today (10/7/10) with one of the greatest bible teachers there is, Pastor Jeffrey Johnson of Eastern Star Church. Pastor Johnson has blessed Calvary many times before in the past and I know that God will use him to bless us again in a supernatural way. I have be a fan of Pastor Johnson's preaching for many years now, and I am always inspired after I hear him minister the Word. So all who can, come out today and let's experience God like we have never experienced Him before. Tell all your friends who can to come out and join us it is sure to be a time of empowerment. Recap of Bible Study: 09/29/10

What's Up My Friends,

I pray that all is going well with everyone today. I wanted to give a brief recap of Bible Study. On yesterday we did things a little different as it relates to Bible Study. As we are getting ready to enter into our Empowerment Conference in the month of October, God encouraged me to tell the members of Calvary to believe him for miracles and the supernatural. He wanted me to encourage the members to expect Him to do a miracle and He wanted it to begin with prayer.

Friends, it is so important that when we pray, we pray with the expectation that something is going to happen. Any major move in your life must begin with prayer. We saw this last night in the Book of Acts. It was not until the disciples were on one accord, PRAYING, in the upper room (look at Acts 1:13-14), did they experience their Acts 2:1 (the Day of Pentecost). It is prayer the precedes this major move of God. God is calling the saints to pray and pray with expectation.

Therefore, last night we asked all the members to anonymously write down their most urgent prayer need. We placed the prayer needs in a special box. This box will be placed in the sanctuary and remain there throughout the entire Empowerment Conference. During the month of October, we will pray over the box with the prayer needs and believe God for supernatural results concerning the prayer needs. At the end of the conference we are expecting and believing God for amazing testimonies of how he delivered, healed, and provided supernatural breakthroughs for the people of God. We absolutely can not wait to hear and share the testimonies. Therefore, we will be posting the testimonies on a designated board in the church, so that others may be encouraged.

Friends, I can not wait to see what God is going to do during this Empowerment Conference! God is a good God who will always bless us in a way that blows our mind. WHY? Because he can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We are believing God and standing on His truth! To God be the glory!

Recap of 9/26/10 Service: STRONG FAITH

What's Up My Friends,

Today was a great day of service at the church. Both services were spirit-filled and I believe people were helped and ministered to. I preached a message entitled, "Strong Faith" from Matthew 8: 23-26. We are living in are challenging times and I am convinced that if we, as the saints, are going to make it through these times we have to possess Strong Faith. When dealing with strong problems, you have to have strong faith in order overcome them.

At our 8 am service, God really ministered this Word in a special way. Sometimes I have a bad habit of just preaching so hard at 8 am that I go into 11 am service a little tired. However, God always seems to provide enough strength for the moment. At the 11 am service we experienced such a flow and freedom of His Spirit and I believe that the people of God left knowing the importance of Strong Faith. In order to flow in Strong Faith, in the middle of our test we have to rest in God and trust Him to bring us out. Then we must take God at His Word and confess His Word over our lives despite the challenging condition we might find ourselves in. Then, finally, we have to know that no matter how tough the situation may be in our life, Jesus is with us and He is willing to bless us in a supernatural way.

My prayer is that people left service today motivated and encouraged. One of the greatest gifts God has given us is our faith. If we work our faith, it will perform wonders and miracles in our lives. Remember the Bible says in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The more we receive and believe God's Word, the more our faith gets stronger in Him. Then we can display all the qualities of Strong Faith.

Friends, God is ready and willing to bless you! He wants to take you to the next level. You just have to be ready and willing to believe God for the impossible and you can only do that with Strong Faith! So, I want to encourage all to have Strong Faith in God and He will take care of you! Stay Strong.

Pray For The Church!!!!

What's Up My Friends,

Today has been an very interesting day. As you all know a lot has went down as it relates to Bishop Eddie Long and the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (NBMBC) of Atlanta, GA. These kinds of situations are never good for anyone: those who are involved or the Body of Christ at large. It is important that in times like these that the church lets its light shine brighter than ever. We need to be careful not to rush to judgment without getting all the facts, and more importantly than anything, we need to be verrrrrrry prayerful! For those who do not know what is going on, yesterday a story broke from Georgia accusing Bishop Eddie Long of Atlanta, Ga and pastor of NBMBC of inappropriate sexual relationships with some of his young adult male members. As stated above, these are just accusations as of now, however, civil lawsuits have been filed against the Bishop and his church.

The whole situation is so unfortunate. Being someone who has been blessed and tremendously helped by the ministry of Bishop Long, this situation deeply saddens me. However, I think the bigger question to ask to the Body of Christ is,"How will we respond to this matter?" The media is having a field day because the media loves bad news, especially when it comes to the church. The media jumps on these types of stories and uses them as an opportunity to demise and degrade the name of Christ. Yet, as believers I feel that our response should be different. Bishop Long has blessed the church in many great and helpful ways. He took NBMBC from 300 members to currently 30,000 members (unbelievable). He has preached many awesome messages to encourage and bless so many people. Therefore, if Bishop Long ever needed the grace, love, mercy, and support he has preached about for years; boy is it now!

In bible study today at noonday, we taught on the "gift of exhortation." One of my points to the people was that as the church we should always seek to uplift one another and not tear each other down. We have to be able to see people at their worst and still be able to pick them up, pray, and cover them so that they can get back on the right track. Now if this sounds odd to you, don't get it twisted, this is what God does for us all the time. So, we who have received mercy should be the first to show mercy.

So my encouragement and exhortation to the body is to pray. Yes, simply pray!!! We should pray for the accusers, pray for NBMBC, and we should pray for Bishop Long. Notice the only thing I said is pray, not gossip, laugh, celebrate, rejoice, or speculate. Just pray for everyone involved. Don't ever forget we are only where we are today because God covered our stuff. We are not perfect. We just serve a perfect God. So I'm praying for Bishop and NBMBC. I pray that through all of this God gets the glory. I will stay on top of this situation and continue to blog and share about it. Pray!

Let's Catch Up!!!!

What's Up Friends,

I hope I still have an audience out there in cyberspace. It has been a long time since, I have had the opportunity to communicate through blogging. However, this is something that I need to do. Not just for those interested in reading my blog, but more importantly for ME. Blogging is very therapeutic and it really helps me express my thoughts on various topics and issues. As I start my new season of blogging, I'm going to to do some things different. I will try to post every other day. I will post things like spiritual devotionals, my take on current events and things that are on and in my heart. Also, after each Sunday and Wednesday I will give a recap of services at the church and give my perspective on what happened and how God moved! I'm looking forward to a very exciting and transparent relationship.

Now, I have to catch everyone up on everything that has been going on. Where do I start? Let's start with my boy, MJ (Moses Bryant Herring, Jr.). Since we talked last, I have had a new child ( I didn't literally have him, Cresha did, but you feel me), a little boy. If you have read my previous blogs you know that I wanted a little boy, so God answered my want. MJ is doing well and is growing as the day go by and he looks just like his daddy (lol). My baby girl Hannah is doing awesome. She is too grown but I guess that is to be expected from a two year old!!! Cresha is still holding it down and doing a great job as a wife and mother. I thank God for my family. My family is very important to me; it's my first ministry and I cannot afford to fail at it. If the family is destroyed it won't be long before society will be too. So, a word to all, honor and love your family, for it is the will of God!

Also since we talked last, I celebrated three years of being the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood. It has gone by so fast it's hard for me to believe sometimes. God has been good and I pray that people have been helped and developed in these three years that I have been at Calvary. I have really enjoyed and embraced the journey. It has its challenges at times but anything you do for God will have its challenges. But, I hear Paul saying, endure hardness as a good solider (don't get me to preaching lol). Overall, my experience has been helpful and I believe it is preparing me to be all that God wants me to be. I look forward to the future!

Lastly, I am just so thrilled to be back blogging again. I feel God has given me a lot to say and I want to share it with the world. Anytime God gives you something whether its finances or a revelation from him, it's never for you but always for somebody else. So, don't be selfish with the wisdom and knowledge God has given you because I promise somebody needs to hear it. Glad to be back and I look forward to sharing with you. Keep holding on!

A Great Resurerection Sunday

What's Up My People,

This past Sunday, Christians all over the country celebrated the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As I often say at Calvary, Easter is the Super Bowl of Christianity. There is nothing better than praising our Lord on a day set aside to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for you and I. On this past Sunday, we had a awesome time of worship at Calvary. We had two services and the atmosphere of worship was amazing. God blessed us in such a special way and I truly felt the presence of God in our church.

As it relates to the Easter sermon, I did something different this year. I preached an illustrated sermon. My message was entitled, The Confessions of A Criminal. I preached about a person in the Bible by the name of Barabbas. The Bible identities him as a notorious prisoner who was known as a murder. I preached the message from first person as if I was Barabbas giving my testimony to the church. I even dressed as a criminal in an orange jump suit to better illustrated the message. I talked about what Jesus did for Barabbas. Jesus took Barabbas PLACE, PUNISHMENT AND PAIN (Matthew 27). The people of God seem to be blessed by God's Word. Many people realized what God did for Barabbas, he did for the also. We had a great time in the Lord!

It's important that we don't ever forget what Resurrection Sunday is all about. It's not about Easter egg baskets or some crazy Easter bunny but it's all about Jesus. I trusted everyone had a wonderful Easter. Whatever you do, don't forget what Jesus did for you! Peace.

What's Up My People,

Well, it is official, my wife and I are having a baby boy!!! Moses Bryant Herring Jr. is about to arrive in a couple of months. We are soooo excited and cannot wait to have our new addition in our lives. We have already taught Hannah how to say brother. I believe she is excited too. A Boy or Girl???

What's Up My People,

I have a question. Is it wrong, as parents, to want your child to be a specific gender? My wife and I are expecting and we do have a preference. Don't get me wrong, overall we just pray for a healthy baby. But, I would be lying if I didn't confess we want a little hard legged boy running around with Hannah. Most people we have talked to think it is going to be a boy. However, with these kind of things you never know. It has always been a life long dream of mine to have twin boys that I would name them: Phil and Will. So, if I don't get them this time, I probably will give it another shot. We are going to find out the gender of the baby this coming week. We are so excited. If it is a boy, no question his name will be: Moses Bryant Herring Jr. If it's a girl? Well, I got so much faith, I'm not even trying to think of one (lol). So we will see. I will release it here on the blog first. I can't wait!!!!! Peace.

Book of The Month

What's Up My People,

In this season of my life, I am really enjoying the joy of reading. I try to read at least one book every month. I felt it would be good to share with you some books that have been a blessing to me. So, the first book, I would like to suggest is one that was written by a great preacher and a great shepherd, Pastor R. A. Vernon. The name of the book is entitled, "The Blessing Behind Closed Doors". It is about the journey that Pastor Vernon had to go through in order to get to where he is now. He is currently the pastor of "The WORD" Church(http://www.wordcity.org/). The book is an easy read. This book is for everyone who has ever been rejected or had doors closed in their face. Sometimes our closed doors are not for our disappointments but for our destiny! This book is a book that I am sure that you will enjoy. It certainly worthy the investment. Peace.

Tiger Woods And Our Culture

What's Up My People,

Today for the first time in months, famous golfer, Tiger Woods talked publicly. In November Tiger Wood's life changed forever. It was in November, when Tiger Woods was involved in a car accident by his home, which led to an investigation of his personal life. Through media investigation it was discovered that Tiger was involved in many unfaithful relationships. Since then it has been a media circus over his actions and his personal life. Many people have accused him of being a selfish cheater who does not deserve any of the blessings that he has, while others feel totally disappointed in his actions.

Now, it is not my intent, by any means, to judge Tiger Woods. I am a person who always seeks to try to extend grace and mercy to people who are in need of it. As Jesus said,"less we all repent we shall all perish." However, I do seek to discuss our American "sex crazed culture" and use Tiger Wood's action as a backdrop to our cyberspace conversion. The problem of infidelity is not one that is just tailored to athletes or "people in the world." We all know that things like infidelity does not only happen to the unsaved, but also to the saved. Once again, I make no excuses for Tiger. He was wrong. He had a choice and unforunately chose the wrong one. I do believe to a certain extent that the American culture was a factor in him making the wrong choice . Many people have asked me in recent months do I think Tiger Woods has a real addiction to sex or did he just lose control?

I think we must first understand that Tiger Woods is 34 years of age. I say this because it is important to understand that Tiger was brought up in a culture that was and still is highly sexually charged. During the time Tiger was reared in America, our culture was embedded with sex. Every commercial on TV involved sex, every music video had some sexual theme in it, sexual materials and visuals could be easily accessed, and every opportunity the culture had they put sex in the faces of America. It amazes me sometimes, because my media people tell me at the church that some of my most requested sermons have been those on sex and relationships. Now, please know that I am not making any excuses, but my point is that when you grow up in a culture that is highly sexually charged, it is easy to form an unhealthy perspective or view on sex. Then add to the picture that you are highly successful with everyone around scared to tell you "no" and you don't want to hear the word "no." Then bad things can easily happen!

It's not just Tiger. Statics show more than 70% of divorces in America happen due to infidelity. It's a problem for everyone, but especially highly successful people. Our culture almost encourages these kind of acts that Tiger committed. Now, if Tiger is 34 and this kind of culture impacted him, imagine what is happening to our young people today. Things have not gotten better, but worse. Sex is more talked about today than perhaps ever. Its all over TV, the Internet, and public places. You no longer have to pay to see it because today it's free with no restrictions to stop anyone from viewing it. You may disagree, but I think Tiger is a product of a sex crazed culture that does not honor God or God's way of doing things. Therefore, people have skewed view of sex and relationships. We no longer encourage marriage or encourage people to honor and respect their marriage. Oh yeah, we only do that kind of stuff when someone gets caught. If a person has not been taught on the proper order of relationships and sex, then you can almost bet our culture will challenge and pervert their minds.

This is why the church must take a stand. The culture does a much better job on discussing and training people on sex than the church does. Recently at Calvary, we had a forum called "Keeping It Real". Our topic of discussion was on sex. For the most part, people were really blessed by the discussion. There were a couple of people who were shocked and surprised that the church would discuss sex in church. Although it was age appropriate (12 and up), I know some people were uncomfortable. However, at the age of 12 the average young person has heard about sex and probably has formed their own opinion on it. Now, if the church has not educated them or gave them God's order of sex by the time they have formed their opinions, then we could be putting a"Tiger in the woods."

My point is this, we have a culture who knows that sex sells. They have no care what message they send to people. However, as the church it's not only our concern, but our job to get the right message out on sex. We must let people know what God says about sex. Sex is a beautiful thing in the eyes of God when it is done the right way. Let's take a stand as the church so we can prevent people from messing up their lives and hurting other people they really care about. Let's pray for Tiger, especially his wife, his children, and his entire family. We all need to be prayerful and careful that we don't slip but do the right thing. We Are The World - Old School vs. New School

I need you to help me solve a family feud. We all know the wonderful song entitled, We Are The World. It was first written in the 80s to help with the crisis in Africa at the time. Recently, after the tragedy in Haiti it was remade to support the cause of rebuilding Haiti. My wife and I recently got into a friendly debate about which song is the better. She likes the older version while I like the newer version. Although, I love old school music, I like the twist to the new version a little better. So, listen and tell me who you think is right. What's Up My People,

I know, I know, it's been a minute since we have talked through cyberspace. But, the good news is: I'm back and ready to blog like never before. Well, where do I start? First, of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Welcome to the Year of Order & Obedience - Experiencing the D-28 Blessing. My Calvary folk know what I'm talking about (lol). I'm so excited about 2010. I believe this year will be the year that you see God do the supernatural in your life. Just trust God and know that He is your source. God is going to do so many awesome things in your life this year, and he is going to do it supernaturally! The key is to be in order and obedience according to God's Word, will, and ways (Deuteronomy 28). As I reflect on Calvary so far this year, God has really been blessing us. Our Sunday services have just been going to another level. It's a wonderful thing when flesh exits and the Father enters. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. This year strive to know God like you have never knew him before. Perhaps he will reveal some stuff to you that you have never known before. Wouldn't that be great!!!

Since we chatted last time, a major disaster hit the world. Like so many of you, my heart goes out to the precious people of Haiti. It is so sad to see those people struggle and try to make it after an unfortunate earthquake hit their country. I believe, as believers, we should just not pray from a distance, but get involved so that we can help rebuild the people and their homes. This means support with your prayers and pocketbooks too. Let us not judge the people of Hati. This did not happen to them because they were bad people like some people are trying to suggest. Always remember: it's someone else today, but could be you tomorrow. As Jesus said,"Lest we repent, we shall all perish." There are so many charities and organizations out there that awaits our support. Make sure you do not fall victim to any scams. Make sure the organization is legit. So let's do the right thing and help the people of Hati out. I pray God will restore them a hundred fold.

Finally, let me end on a fun note. I am so excited that the Saints won the Superbowl!!! The Saints were one of the three teams that I was cheering for at the beginning of the football season. The other two teams were the Eagles (I am a Michael Vick fan, don't shot me) and the Bears of course. We are still praying for the Bears (lol). I just think the New Orleans Saints was just a great comeback story. To see the city of New Orleans have something to smile about is just wonderful. It just goes to show, because you are down doesn't mean you have to stay down. Go Saints!!!

What's Up My People,

On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, one of God's greatest generals, Oral Roberts, passed from this world into eternity. Oral Roberts was 91 years old when he passed on yesterday in Newport Beach, California. I was not feeling well yesterday so, I stayed at home trying to get some rest and recover. My wife, Hannah, and I went out yesterday evening and when I came back and turned on the computer, I was surprised to see a headline story saying Oral Roberts had died. My first reaction was one of shock. Then my heart immediately became glad because I knew that Oral Roberts was going home to be with the Lord.

As I think about the legacy of Oral Roberts, I really don't think the body of Christ realizes his importance and significance. Oral Roberts was one of the first preachers to use media in order to get the gospel out to the masses. Not only that, but he was one of the first to show the miracle power of God on television. It has been said that millions have watched and been blessed by the ministry of Oral Roberts. However, his greatest accomplishment will probably be the university that bears his name, Oral Roberts University. This is a university that God commissioned him to build after the Lord healed him of tuberculosis at the age of 17 years old. Today ORU is a fully accredited university that has educated and equipped so many to serve God's kingdom both in the secular and spiritual world. The campus at ORU is a sight to behold. It's amazing to see how God used someone to build something that would bring God glory.

I could go on and on about Oral Roberts and the impact he has had on the world, the body of Christ, and myself. However, I will conclude with just mentioning the greatest lesson I have learned from Oral Roberts. This lesson is one I will take with me until the day I die. Oral Roberts taught me the importance of obeying God at all cost. Regardless, of how difficult what God has commanded may be, regardless of the opinions of others, regardless of criticism and scrutiny, God must be obeyed! As I have studied the life of Oral Roberts, I have come to understand that that's how he lived his life. He obeyed God at all cost. One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 8:14,"For as many that are led by the Spirit of God that are the children of God." I am determined more than ever to follow the leading of God through His Holy Spirit. By doing that, I ensure that I am in the middle of he will of God. What A Happy Thanksgiving

What's Up My People,

Like many of you, I am tying to recover from yesterday. Thanksgiving is always a joy! This one was no different. At Calvary, we had our annual Thanksgiving service. And, oooooooooh did we have a great time in the Lord. We came to church just to tell God thank you for all his many blessings this year. I preached about, A Recession Praise, from Habakkuk 3: 17-19. I talked about how in a middle of a recession, we still have so much to give God praise for. The prophet Hababkkuk was experencing tough times in his day and living in what we would call a recession.
He explained how bad his condition was in vs. 17 of chapter 3. However, in vs. 18 of chapter 3, the prophet shouted out a praise to God despite how bad his condtion was in vs. 17. In other words, he gave God a recession praise. We talked about how we should praise God in the middle of tough times ( a recession) becasue God has: Sustained Us (vs. 17), Strengthened Us (vs.19), and Secured Us (vs.19). There was such a sweet spirit in the house of the Lord. I believe many people were able to prasie God and just thank him for his ability to keep us. So many of us, as children of God, are just so grateful for God's blessing despite the difficult times in the world today.

After service it was time to eat. My wife did an outstanding job cooking and we all ate good. She cooked all my favorite foods and pies. She really just out did herself. A deacon from church, Don Howard, fried a turkey for me and it was the bomb! The best part of Thanksgiving for me is the leftovers. You can eat for days just off one meal. I had a wonderful time fellowshipping with family and just being at peace. That's what Thanksgiving is all about, thanking God for all his many blessings.

So, as we enter the holiday season learn how to have an attitude of gratitude. The more we thank God, the more we position ourselves to receive more from God. God blesses grateful people, not complainers. No matter what's going on in your life, be grateful. It could be worse. Somebody has it worse than you; someone sleep under a bridge last night, someone did not eat a thanksgiving meal, but God allowed you to have a home and food to eat. Therefore, always be thankful and as the Bible says, in all things give thanks. This year let's remember those who are less fortunate and let's find someone who we can be a blessing to and bless them. God is always good to us, so let's start being good to God! Praying For The Daugherty Family

What's Up My People,

I found out today that a great pastor, leader, and servant died on Sunday, Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty. He was diagnosed with cancer a month ago, and died on Sunday. He was the founding pastor of the 17,000 member, Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, OK (http://www.victory.com/). During my time in Tulsa, I was able to witness Pastor Billy Joe do ministry in a way that I had never seen before. Victory is a model church. Pastor Billy Joe had a heart for people and it showed in the way he cared for them. Victory has a wonderful Christian Academy (for all ages), Bible Institute, and an awesome community center in North Tulsa, called the Dream Center, and many more ministries and programs. Pastor Billy Joe had a heart for missions, so he traveled to many countries preaching the gospel and establishing bible institutes in those countries. His church recently moved into their new worship center which cost about 32 million dollars, however under Pastor Billy Joe's leadership the church moved into the building debt free!

Pastor Billy Joe was a graduated of ORU. During my last semester at ORU, I had an opportunity to sit and listen to Pastor Billy Joe speak to all the graduating class . He spoke with so much wisdom and meekness. You could tell he truly had a heart for God. I guess one thing he will be most remember for is when a gentleman, a couple of years ago, punched him in the face in the middle of service. Yet, Pastor Billy Joe never missed a beat. He just responded in agape-love. I will keep the entire Daugherty family and Victory family in my prayers. The kingdom has truly lost a good solider. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Peace.

What's Up My People,

This is hot off the press!!! I am so excited to make this announcement first on my blog. I am happy to announce that my wife and I are expecting our second child!!! Yes, child number two. I cannot believe it! This was a surprise, but as you know surprises do happen (lol). I was totally shocked when my wife and I found out. We already have our hands full with our darling Hannah, now double the trouble. Therefore, I reeeeallly need your prayers more than ever (lol). However, the whole family is excited, and just consider it a blessing that God would trust and bless us with another precious life. I can't wait! So, you heard it here first, on my blog. What's Up My People,

I had to take a break from studying for tomorrow's message. As I was getting ready for tomorrow, I just felt God ministering to me in my spirit. I believe God wants to share a Word with somebody who is at a crossroad in life. Perhaps there is something you feel lead of God to do but you are afraid things will not work out. Maybe, you feel God leading you to step out on faith to do something new but you are concerned with what family or friends may say. Whatever has you at your crossroad. I want to encourage you: Just Do It! Whatever God is leading you to do, just do it! Don't try to rationalize it or figure it out. God is not to be understood, only believed. So my Word to you tonight is JUST DO IT!!! Then watch God do the rest! Peace.

Precious - Movie Review

What's Up My People,

Earlier this week, I had a rare opportunity to enjoy a movie at the movie theater. I watched a movie that I had been anticipating watching for a long time. The movie was entitled, Precious. It was a movie that was produced by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. The movie had a lot of big name stars in it such as Monique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd, etc. There were also a lot of up and rising stars who acted in the movie. So, where do I begin? Overall, the movie was a great movie! I give it 4 1/2 stars out of five. It was one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen in my life. The movie did not hide anything; it was raw and real.

Without giving the movie away, the movie was about a troubled, 16 year old girl, named Precious. She lived in a totally dysfunctional home and had serious problems in her life. As she struggles to find her identity and dignity, she has some help from people she encounters along her journey. Just when you think things can't get any worse, they do! Therefore, Precious has to decide how she is going to handle her continual disappointments and how she will treat those who are responsible for her horrific life.

The movie is a great movie about how to deal with life's disappointments. It literally had me sitting with my mouth wide open. My wife was sitting by me, so I had to hide my tears. I think she caught me though (lol). I left the movie inspired and motivated, desiring to do all I can to be the best I can be in life and to help others reach their full potential. Throughout the movie there were a lot of serious issues dealt with that are so relevant to our society today. Issues that most movies don't even have a desire to deal with. It's amazing because in Bible Study, I had just taught about sexual immorality. I taught how sexual immorality dealt with issues like adultery, bestiality, homosexuality, sex before marriage, lust, and incest. When I taught about incest I could tell some people looked as if, yeah right, that does not really happened. Yet, this movie deals with incest in a real and powerful way. If there is anything this movie should do for you, it should cause you to seriously think about our world and the hidden secrets so many people have to live with everyday. We need a forum where we can talk about these issues openly and help people get healing. This is what the church should be about. The church should not be running from the tough issues, but dealing with them head on because we are the only ones who have the answer!

So, if you have not gone to see the movie yet, please do so. It will bless you. Now, remember the movie is rated R and it is really not for little children. I will say again, it is real and raw. Yet, it is a movie that I think is needed because it challenges us as a society to deal with some issues that makes us uncomfortable. That is a good thing! So, go out and enjoy Precious. Let it challenge you and make you want to do something to help people like Precious. This is a movie I definitely recommend! I just might preach about this one! Peace.

Receiving God's New Thing

What's Up My People,

Yesterday was a special day for me as a preacher/pastor. I have preached many inspirational sermons in my ten years of ministry, but yesterday's message was one that came right from the lips of God. I preached from the Book of Isaiah 43: 18-19, I titled the text, God Has Something Better. I really felt the presence of God strongly as I preached the Word of God. It is my prayer that Calvary received the message and will see the results from obeying the Word of the God. Since I have been teaching on the Holy Spirit during Bible Study (by the way you must come to BS, God is moving and changing lives in a big way) I feel as if I am hearing the voice of God more frequently and more clearer. As I prepared for Sunday's message, I heard God give me direct instructions through the Word of God, for the people of God. With the assurance that if they obey, God will move in a new way. It took so much out of me preaching that message, but it was well worth it. It is my prayer that God does a new thing in the life of our church and all that heard the Word that was preached. Just know that God has something better for you. He wants do something for you that he has never done before. If you do your part, God will do his part. Let's walk in our new thing! Peace.

I'm Proud of My Wife

What's Up My People,

The title says it all! I am soooo proud of my wife. Yesterday, my wife spoke at a church in

Illinois for their women's day. She did an outstanding job. I am so amazed at how God is using

her. She spoke from the subject, Waiting to Exhale. It was a great message and I know people

were helped. It is a blessing to have a good wife. Just last month we celebrated 5 years of

marriage. We have been together for 12 years and I thank God that she continues to put up

with me. I am praying for her as she is getting ready to get more involved at Calvary. I know

God is going to bless her and the work she will do for the kingdom. Good job Cree-Cree.

What A Great Conference

What's Up My People,

Last week was a great week for my church, Calvary. We had an awesome time at our first Empowerment Conference. It took place last Wednesday through Friday. There was such a spirit of expectation in the house every night. Calvary showed up every night in great numbers and made the conference what it was. I have been in a lot of good church services before, but the spirit of the conference was a special one, like I never experienced before.

On Wednesday, Pastor Sean McMillan took the place of Pastor Charles Jenkins and we were not disappointed. Pastor Sean McMillan preached a great message on Wednesday. His message was entitled "When We Were Kings." He encouraged us that God is in control of our lives, even in the worst moments of our lives. Then on Thursday, Pastor Craig Oliver came and just tore our church up. He preached about "Getting Off The Boat." The message was a real blessing to the whole congregation. Pastor Oliver delivered it like only he could. It was a dream come true to have him minister at Calvary. Then on the final night, Friday, Pastor Otis Moss III closed out the conference on a real high note. He preached from John 9 about the man who was blind from birth. He told us that our condition does not have to be our conclusion. Pastor Moss preached like I have never heard him preach before. All three nights were phenomenal and God moved in a mighty way.

I cannot wait until our next conference to see how God is going to move. I am so grateful to all the speakers. Every preacher did a great job. Most importantly, I thank God for the people of Calvary for supporting the conference. I know lives have been changed by the preached Word of God. I totally feel empowered!!! Peace.

This video truly blessed me. It is about a young man, a brilliant young man by the name of Johnathan E. McCoy. He is a member of The Empowerment Temple Church where Dr. Jamal H. Bryant is the pastor. He give this speech at his church during Black History month. His speech focuses on eliminating the"N" word from modern day culture. I love this young man and his intelligence and his commitment to speak truth to power. As a people, we must respect ourselves before others will respect us as a people.
